National Assembly elects Chairman of Finance Committee

On the morning of May 19, the Secretary General of the National Assembly held a press conference on the expected agenda of the 5th session of the 15th National Assembly.

One of the important contents at this meeting is to review personnel work, which was arranged right after the opening session on May 22.

Responding to the press regarding personnel matters at this session, Deputy Head of the Delegation Affairs Committee Nguyen Tuan Anh said that the National Assembly will consider, discuss, give opinions, and vote on the proposal of the National Assembly Standing Committee on the dismissal and termination of the duties of deputies for personnel elected by the National Assembly.

Specifically, the National Assembly will decide to dismiss and remove Nguyen Phu Cuong, Chairman of the Finance and Budget Committee, from his position as a National Assembly delegate.

Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh said that on May 15, at the mid-term conference of the 13th Central Committee, the Party Central Committee decided to vote to allow Mr. Nguyen Phu Cuong to stop participating in the 13th Central Committee.

"On May 16, comrade Nguyen Phu Cuong submitted a request to resign from his duties as a National Assembly delegate and from the positions elected by the National Assembly. Accordingly, according to procedure, the National Assembly Standing Committee will consider it during the session to submit it to the session for consideration and decision on related matters," said Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh.

Regarding the reason for the Central Committee's dismissal and the National Assembly's removal procedures for Mr. Nguyen Phu Cuong, Secretary General of the National Assembly Bui Van Cuong said that the reason will only be announced when the National Assembly considers the removal. "There is no reason to say anything more because it is a principle," Mr. Cuong said.

Also according to Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh, after dismissing Mr. Nguyen Phu Cuong, at the session, the National Assembly will carry out the process of electing members of the National Assembly Standing Committee and Chairman of the Finance and Budget Committee.

In addition, Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh also confirmed that at this session, the National Assembly will consider the proposal to approve, appoint, and dismiss the position of Minister of Natural Resources and Environment for the 2021-2026 term according to regulations.

Currently, the position of Minister of Natural Resources and Environment is still held by Mr. Tran Hong Ha after being approved by the National Assembly to be appointed as Deputy Prime Minister at the 2nd extraordinary session in January.

However, Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh did not provide any information about the personnel who will take on the positions of Chairman of the National Assembly's Finance and Budget Committee and Minister of Natural Resources and Environment.
