Sighing as he looked at the numerous small potholes appearing in front of his house, Mr. VTM, a resident of Tan Hung neighborhood, Vinh Thong ward, said that this section of National Highway 80 was previously severely damaged and had only been repaired about a year ago, but is now showing signs of peeling again. “Many years ago, the road was very bad, full of potholes, making travel extremely difficult, especially during the rainy season. After the road was repaired, we were very happy. Traveling and transporting goods became easier, but in the last two months, potholes have appeared in several sections,” Mr. M said.

According to reporters, the section of National Highway 80 passing through Tan Hung and My Hung neighborhoods in Vinh Thong ward, which residents have complained about, shows signs of damage, mainly peeling road surface and small potholes, approximately 20-30 cm² in size. Some areas show signs of slight subsidence, but this has not caused serious damage or affected the road's structural integrity. This situation is scattered and not widespread along the entire route, but it indicates the need for monitoring and early maintenance to prevent it from developing into serious damage.

Mr. NVT, a truck driver who frequently travels this section of the highway, confided: "The road was straight and smooth, but then potholes appeared in some sections. Sometimes we couldn't avoid them in time and had to brake suddenly, increasing the risk of traffic accidents. With the recent heavy rains and storms, the road surface is wet and slippery, making the potholes even harder to see. If not addressed promptly, the damage will spread. I'm afraid this section of road will be severely damaged again like before, which would be terrible for the people."

Although not recently repaired, the section of road in Son Thinh hamlet, My Thuan commune (heading from Ta Hem bridge slope, My Thuan commune towards Rach Gia ward), along with National Highway 80, also shows signs of uneven surface, with many potholes and peeling asphalt. Some areas have horizontal cracks and slight subsidence, making travel difficult for residents.

Local residents hope that authorities will soon inspect, monitor, and implement timely maintenance plans. Ms. NTMC, a resident of My Hung neighborhood, suggested patching potholes and repairing cracked and peeling sections. “I hope the authorities will increase regular inspections, especially during periods of heavy rain and storms like the present, to promptly address subsidence before the damage spreads. Authorities should review the quality of materials and construction techniques to ensure the road's longevity and prevent premature damage after repairs,” Ms. MC said.
