Building on the results achieved in 2023, from the first month of 2024, functional sectors from the province to the grassroots level continue to demonstrate their determination in performing socio -economic development tasks in each assigned field.

By the end of 2023, the provincial agricultural sector achieved an economic growth rate (GRDP) of 3.12%, exceeding the plan by 0.07%. In 2024, the provincial agricultural sector continues to set a target of achieving GRDP by the end of the year of 3%. To achieve the set target, from the first month of the year, the entire provincial agricultural sector has promoted production development in all fields, focusing on transforming from agricultural production thinking to agricultural economics; from single-sector development to multi-sector cooperation and development; promoting multi-value integration in agricultural, forestry and fishery products and shifting from agricultural product supply chains to developing industry chains to increase product value and income for people.
The provincial agricultural sector is focusing on developing various sectors to achieve and exceed the planned GRDP growth of 3% by the end of this year.
Mr. Ngo Minh Long, Director of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, informed: One of the key tasks in January was for the provincial agricultural sector to direct the effective production of the main rice crop of the year, the Winter-Spring crop of 2023-2024. Up to now, farmers in the province have sown nearly 74,400 hectares, exceeding the plan by nearly 200 hectares. Currently, rice fields are concentrated in the tillering to ripening stage and developing well, farmers have high expectations for a successful rice crop in all aspects. In addition, the total aquaculture area is nearly 2,000 hectares, reaching 16.8% of the plan; livestock farming in the past month has developed stably, and diseases in livestock and poultry have been well controlled.
In addition to focusing on the winter-spring rice crop, farmers in the province are also boosting agricultural production to serve the upcoming Lunar New Year. Of which, the vegetable area is 2,832 hectares, up 28% over the same period, with an estimated output of 43,605 tons; the fruit area harvested during the Tet holiday is 3,419 hectares, up 10.6% over the same period, with an estimated output of 39,111 tons. For flowers and ornamental plants for Tet, it is expected to supply the market with more than 1.1 million flower pots of all kinds, an increase of more than 31% over the same period, including types such as: marigolds, chrysanthemums of all kinds, yellow apricots, bougainvillea, pansies, sunflowers, ornamental chili peppers... In addition, the Provincial People's Committee has issued a plan to launch the emulation movement of the Rural Traffic - Irrigation and Rural Environmental Protection Campaign in 2024. Through this, it will help localities in the province proactively develop solutions to effectively implement the assigned targets according to the plan.
Along with the agricultural sector, trading activities of goods are taking place vigorously, in which many businesses have promotional programs to stimulate consumption along with the regulation of functional sectors, thereby goods are abundantly supplied, ensuring no shortage of goods and implementing price stabilization to create favorable conditions for people's Tet shopping activities.
Mr. Nguyen Van Quan, Director of the provincial Department of Industry and Trade, said: The unit is coordinating with the provincial functional agencies to organize the opening of the Hau Giang Spring Trade Fair tomorrow (February 1), with 300 participating booths to serve the people's shopping needs for Tet. In addition, the unit is also coordinating with relevant provincial agencies to step up inspection, supervision and strictly handle violations of counterfeit, fake and poor quality goods during Tet.
Also showing determination in carrying out the assigned tasks, Mr. Nguyen Van Bay, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the province, informed: In January, the unit advised the Provincial People's Committee to successfully organize many important events, especially the series of activities to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the province's founding and the tourism week with culture and cuisine of Hau Giang province. In February alone, the unit submitted and was unanimously approved by the Provincial People's Committee for 27 series of activities to celebrate the Party and celebrate the Spring of Giap Thin 2024 in the spirit of practicality, meaning, safety, thoughtfulness, strictness and economy.
Regarding the work of celebrating the Party and the New Year of the Dragon 2024, the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of the province has made a list and advised the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Committee to organize many activities to take care of Tet for people with revolutionary contributions, social protection beneficiaries, poor households, near-poor households, households in difficult circumstances, workers and children in difficult circumstances in the province. In addition, the health sector has proposed a plan to effectively carry out medical examination and treatment for people in the province, especially proactively preventing and fighting dengue fever and hand, foot and mouth disease. In addition, the Provincial Police are also determined to ensure political security and social order and safety, first of all before, during and after Tet.
Like the provincial departments and branches, localities in the province have been focusing on drastically implementing socio-economic development tasks under the direction of the Provincial People's Committee right in the first month of the year. Mr. Nguyen Hoang Anh, Chairman of Chau Thanh District People's Committee, said: The district has been implementing well 16 series of activities to celebrate the Party and celebrate the New Year according to the set plan; at the same time, promoting propaganda on disease prevention and control in humans and prevention and control of saltwater intrusion according to the forecast of the central and provincial functional branches.
Mr. Dong Van Thanh, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, said that the tasks in socio-economic development in 2024 are very heavy. Because this is the year when the province must complete the key targets of the 2021-2025 period. Therefore, Directors, Heads of provincial departments, branches and sectors and Chairmen of People's Committees of districts, towns and cities in the province need to uphold the sense of responsibility of the head, strictly implement the directions of the Government, Provincial Party Committee, Provincial People's Council; Provincial People's Committee. In particular, research and concretize the key tasks and solutions of the sector and locality to best complete the targets and tasks set for 2024, contributing to the early completion of the targets of the entire term.
