These are works by Gabriel García Márquez and Jon Fosse. All are new, timely works, showing a closeness to foreign publishing.

Unpublished works of Márquez

Nha Nam Book Company has just announced that it will release the latest book by the late Colombian writer who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1982 - Gabriel García Márquez. Titled Until August (original Spanish title: En agosto nos vemos ), this work appears nearly 10 years after the writer's death.

Márquez's final novel was published... against his wishes.

The 100-page work is the result of his late writing efforts. It tells the story of Ana Magdalena Bach, a middle-aged woman with a happy marriage and a house filled with music . Every year, on August 16, Ana visits the Caribbean island where her mother is buried. These trips, even if only for one night, change Ana and help her explore other corners of her inner world.

According to critics, this is a novel rich in intense emotions, giving readers deep reflections on freedom, regret, self-transformation and the mysteries of love.

The work is expected to be released in many countries such as the US, France, Italy, Türkiye... this March. However, it has also faced a wave of criticism, because before passing away, Márquez himself left a request not to publish the above work, because he wrote it while his memory was seriously impaired.

Some versions in other countries

However, according to the writer's two sons - the heirs and managers of his estate - it would be a mistake if readers could not enjoy this work.

Gabriel García Márquez is a legendary Colombian writer, considered one of the greatest authors of the 20th century, winning the Nobel Prize for "combining reality and fantasy in a richly imagined world that reflects the life and conflicts of an entire continent".

According to a recent announcement from the Cervantes Institute, Gabriel García Márquez is the most translated and read Spanish-language writer of the 21st century.

The work of the latest winning writer

Having just won the 2023 Nobel Prize in Literature for "plays and innovative prose that give voice to the unspeakable", two of Jon Fosse's novels will also soon be available in Vietnamese.

According to Rainbow Books, the company has successfully purchased the copyrights for two titles. This author's books Aliss at the Fire and Morning and Evening . Of which, Aliss at the Fire is expected to be released around April or May this year.

Aliss at the Fire is one of Jon Fosse's most famous works.

This translation is from the English version, with comparisons with German, Norwegian and many other languages. The translator has been translating the work for a long time, and the moment the writer wins is the lever to help the work come to light.

Jon Fosse is the fourth Norwegian writer to win the Nobel Prize. His prolific output includes 70 novels, poems, children's books, essays, and plays. His work has been translated into more than 50 languages.

Fosse is one of the world's most widely performed contemporary playwrights. His minimalist, introspective plays - written in a language close to prose and lyric poetry - are seen as representing an innovative continuation of the dramatic tradition established by Henrik Ibsen in the 19th century.

His novels are written in a postmodern and avant-garde literary style, characterized by minimalism, lyricism, and unorthodox use of syntax.

The next work from the "heavyweight candidate"

Besides the two award-winning writers, this March, the work Pho Ngu Huong by one of the strong candidates in the upcoming Nobel seasons – Tan Tuyet – will also be released.

This is part of a trilogy written by the female writer, including New Century Love Stories released in 2022 and The Last Lover .

This work borrows the story of "an affair" that happened on Ngu Huong street and the unique discussions and reasoning around it. Through that, with a masterful satirical voice, Tan Tuyet reflects all kinds of chaotic psychology, exposing the many dark corners of the human soul.

Ngu Huong Street continues to be a special experience of Tan Tuyet.

Tan Tuyet is considered a pioneering writer who has broken the traditional concepts of writing and imagination of readers about literature in China today. She has repeatedly been ranked high in the bookmakers' bets for the Nobel Prize.

In 2023, she tops the bookmakers' list of favorites to win the Nobel Prize in Literature, followed by Jon Fosse. Given the recent habit of alternating awards, the odds of winning in 2024 are looking very high for the writer.
