Book launch "Celebrity Nguyen The Truc and the Poetry Collection"

This morning, July 9, on the occasion of the death anniversary of the founder, the Nguyen The family (Loc An village, Le Thuy commune) held a ceremony to launch the book "Celebrity Nguyen The Truc and the Encyclical Poetry Collection". Mr. Tran Hai Chau, former Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, former Chairman of the People's Council of Quang Binh province (old); representatives of relevant departments, branches, localities and many descendants of the Nguyen The family; representatives of Thanh Cong National University, Taiwan and the Faculty of Literature, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi attended.

Celebrity Nguyen The Truc (1745-1807) (also known as Nguyen Viet Truc) belonged to the 8th generation of the Nguyen The family in Loc An village, An Thuy commune, Le Thuy district, Quang Binh province (old) with both literary and martial talents, virtue, and diligence.

In particular, he was highly regarded as an official throughout three consecutive dynasties (Lord Nguyen - Tay Son - Nguyen Dynasty) in many different positions: District Chief under Lord Nguyen; highly regarded under Tay Son Dynasty; holding the position of Deputy Inspector of National University under Nguyen Dynasty.

In particular, in 1793, during his diplomatic mission to China, he wrote the poetry collection “Su trinh thi tap”, one of the typical works of Vietnamese diplomatic literature. However, for a long time, the poetry collection appeared anonymously, with the author unknown.

The story of finding the author of “Su trinh thi tap” is a long process full of effort by Professor Tran Ich Nguyen (National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan) and his colleagues. In July 2024, the book “Su trinh thi tap of Nguyen The Truc and family history” edited by Professor Tran Ich Nguyen was published by Lac Hoc Thu Cuc in Taiwan.

The book “The Celebrity Nguyen The Truc and the Collection of Poetry” is a Vietnamese publication introducing to readers the research results of Professor Tran Ich Nguyen along with the annotations of “The Collection of Poetry” (including 150 poems in Chinese) and the appendix is ​​a copy of “The Collection of Poetry”, code A.1123, currently stored at the Library of the Institute of Han Nom Studies. The book was edited by Professor Tran Ich Nguyen.

It is hoped that this book will help readers better understand the famous Nguyen The Truc as well as “Su trinh thi tap”, thereby once again affirming the value of the poetry collection as well as the talent and virtue of the famous Nguyen The Truc; enriching the treasure trove of knowledge about medieval literature of our country. At the same time, opening up many new approaches in researching and teaching medieval literature.
