(QBĐT) - Vo Nguyen Giap High School for the Gifted is a general education institution of the national education system. The school was established on July 11, 1996 by decision of the Provincial People's Committee with the first name of Quang Binh Gifted School. After 28 years of construction and development, under the leadership and direction of the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee and Department of Education and Training (GD-DT), along with the efforts of the management staff, teachers and students through generations, the school has continuously developed, always leading the emulation movement of "good teaching, good learning" in the block of high schools in the province. In particular, in 2014, nearly a year after General Vo Nguyen Giap passed away, in response to the wishes of the school's teachers and students, on August 7, the Provincial People's Committee issued Decision No. 2133/QD-UBND, changing the name of Quang Binh Specialized High School to Vo Nguyen Giap Specialized High School.

The honor and pride of teaching and studying in the school named after the General has further motivated and given teachers and students the confidence to continue striving for new achievements in teaching and learning.

Over the past 10 years, with the attention of all levels, sectors, philanthropists, and parents, the facilities and teaching equipment of Vo Nguyen Giap High School for the Gifted have been increasingly invested in and modernized. In addition, the solidarity and efforts of the Board of Directors and the team of teachers and staff of the school have contributed to improving the quality of teaching and learning, meeting the requirements of the task, the rate of students winning prizes in national and provincial competitions for excellent students is increasingly high.

Identifying the task of improving the professional quality of the teaching staff as a prerequisite for improving the quality of teaching and learning, the school always prioritizes the care and development of the capacity and professional qualifications of the teaching staff; creating conditions for teachers to study and improve their professional qualifications.

Currently, Vo Nguyen Giap High School for the Gifted has 118 staff, teachers and employees. 100% of teachers meet or exceed standards, including 93 staff, teachers with master's degrees and 1 teacher who is a doctoral student. The school has 80 teachers recognized as good teachers at the provincial level, accounting for 77% of the total number of management staff and teachers; 100% of teachers have professional competence classified as fair or excellent.

Vo Nguyen Giap High School for the Gifted always attaches importance to improving the quality of teaching and learning. Along with the strict implementation of the prescribed teaching plan and program, the school has applied many solutions to improve the quality of teaching and learning according to new trends, both ensuring scientific nature and encouraging creativity in students' thinking. Thanks to that, the quality of teaching and learning has been significantly improved over the years. Every year, 100% of students are classified as good or excellent in studying and training, the rate of students achieving excellent academic performance is always from 96-98%; the rate of students passing the high school graduation exam is guaranteed to be 100% with a high average score, always leading high schools in the whole province.

Assigned the task of discovering, nurturing and training talented people, Vo Nguyen Giap High School for the Gifted always focuses on caring for and nurturing excellent students at all levels. Along with encouraging and motivating students to actively study and practice, the school also creates conditions to prioritize investing time and money for students to participate in excellent student training classes from provincial to national levels. As a result, the rate of students winning high prizes is increasing.

From 2014-2024, the school had 351 students winning prizes at national competitions for excellent students (5 first prizes, 70 second prizes, 112 third prizes, 164 consolation prizes) and 4 prizes at international competitions for excellent students (student Nguyen The Quynh, grade 11 and 12, majoring in Physics, won 2 silver medals at the Asia- Pacific Physics Olympiad and 2 gold medals at the World Physics Olympiad in 2016 and 2017); 2,547 students won prizes at the provincial level, of which the percentage of first and second prizes accounted for over 75%.

Notably, in the 2023-2024 school year, Vo Nguyen Giap High School for the Gifted had 66 students participating in the national excellent student competition and 47 students won prizes, the highest percentage of students winning prizes ever. This is the greatest gift that the teachers and students presented to General Vo Nguyen Giap on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the school being named after the General.

In addition to improving the quality of education, the school always attaches importance to political and ideological education, ethics for managers, teachers, staff and students to create solidarity and unity in the whole school; strengthens the building of a team of teachers and staff who are truly exemplary, shining examples in all aspects for students to follow. Thereby, continuing to promote the study and following of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, ethics and style in schools; strengthening the education of revolutionary ideals, political ideology, ethics, lifestyle, life skills, professional skills and employment for students; building a healthy school culture, promoting positive values of traditions and customs, upholding the spirit of "mutual love and solidarity".

Many students have the awareness to strive for the Party's ideals and have been admitted to the Communist Party of Vietnam. Over the past 10 years, Vo Nguyen Giap High School for the Gifted has had 71 excellent students admitted to the Party, bringing the total number of students admitted to the Party at the school to 97.

Identifying the important role of facilities in teaching and learning, the school has had many solutions to build increasingly modern facilities, meeting the needs of innovative teaching. In the past 5 school years alone, the school has invested more than 33 billion VND to improve facilities and purchase teaching equipment. Of which, investment in building student dormitories worth 15 billion VND, building subject classrooms worth 9 billion VND, repairing 3-storey classrooms worth 2.5 billion VND, repairing multi-function houses worth 2.5 billion VND and upgrading the memorial area of General Vo Nguyen Giap worth 900 million VND; purchasing teaching equipment worth 3.5 billion VND... Thanks to that, teaching conditions are increasingly guaranteed, at the same time creating a green, clean and beautiful landscape and environment.

The mass organizations in the school all play their roles and tasks well, contributing significantly to the school's successful completion of the school year's tasks. The school's Party Committee is always clean and strong, completing its tasks well; the school's Trade Union and Youth Union are annually recognized as excellent strong units.

Recognizing the efforts of the school's staff, civil servants, teachers and students through generations, for many consecutive years the school has been recognized as an "Excellent Labor Collective", leading the high school sector of the province, awarded the flag of an excellent emulation unit by the Prime Minister and the Provincial People's Committee; awarded the Third Class Labor Medal by the State in 2008 and the Second Class Labor Medal in 2014; The Provincial People's Committee recognized the school as meeting national standards (first time in 2008, second time in 2022).
