According to Cadena SER , La Liga President Javier Tebas rejected Real Madrid's proposal to postpone the start of the 2025/26 season, despite the proposal having received support from the Spanish Footballers' Association (AFE) and several other clubs.
Previously, according to The Athletic , Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid reached an agreement with La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) that if they reached the quarter-finals of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, they would be allowed to postpone the start of the season to ensure the players' fitness. Real even reached the semi-finals, and believed the conditions for postponement were reasonable.
However, Mr. Tebas affirmed: "They will have 20 days off, instead of 21 days. Other leagues like the Premier League (Chelsea) or Ligue 1 (PSG) also do not change the schedule, so we should not do otherwise."
