Over the past few days, Portuguese media have been constantly updating the situation regarding Mourinho and Benfica. The manager remains the head coach of the red-shirted team, despite numerous reports suggesting he will take over the hot seat at Real Madrid from next season.
According to the current contract terms, any club wishing to sign Mourinho before May 26th only needs to pay 7 million euros. However, after this date, the figure will double to 15 million euros, equivalent to the total salary Benfica will have to pay him in the final year of his contract.

One of the reasons Real Madrid hesitated to appoint Mourinho stemmed from the presidential election at the Bernabeu and internal turmoil. Despite the increasingly complicated situation, Mourinho remained relatively calm. He understood that he had a great opportunity to become Real Madrid's new manager, especially as the Spanish giants were preparing for a major restructuring phase.
Conversely, Benfica is in a passive position. The club's management has been unable to implement plans for the new season as Mourinho's future remains uncertain. The situation has become even more urgent after Benfica's unfavorable results in the domestic league forced them to participate in the Europa League qualifiers from July 23rd. This means the team must reconvene on June 25th to prepare for the new season.
Currently, Benfica has also drawn up a list of candidates to replace Mourinho, with Marco Silva emerging as the preferred choice. The current Fulham manager's contract expires at the end of June and he is considered a good fit for the Portuguese club's new direction.
