Israeli intelligence believes that Iran is preparing to attack Israel from Iraqi territory in the next few days, possibly before the US presidential election on November 5.
According to Axios citing informed sources, Iran's attack on Israel is expected to be carried out from Iraq using a large number of drones and ballistic missiles.

According to the report, carrying out the attack through pro-Iranian militias in Iraq could be an attempt by Tehran to avoid another Israeli attack on strategic targets in Iran.
A US official told Axios that Iran could quickly deploy preparations if Tehran decided to attack early. The official said Washington could not confirm the attack at this time.

Iraq has not yet responded to the information. An Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said on November 1 that Tehran would "use all available tools" to respond to Israeli airstrikes.
Iraq is now trying to avoid being drawn into regional conflicts, Reuters reported, citing informed sources. "Groups with missiles and drones should go to Gaza and Lebanon to fight Israel instead of pushing Iraq into destruction," Reuters quoted an adviser to Iraqi Prime Minister Abdul Ameer Thuaiban as saying.
Mohammed Shummary, president of the Sumeria Foundation (Baghdad), a research organization, said on October 31 that the growing regional conflict risks dragging Iraq's Shi'ite Muslim faction into a catastrophic confrontation.
“They are torn between the decision to keep Iraq out of the fighting and their ideological and political commitments to the Lebanese Shia and the broader resistance, in a context where Israeli provocations have crossed every permissible red line,” Shummary told Reuters.
“If the fighting escalates, this would not only mean continued attacks on Israeli targets, but also the possibility of additional involvement of other factions in larger and more complex operations,” Shummary said.
Israel and Iran have been conducting airstrikes on each other's territory since the conflict in the Gaza Strip broke out in October 2023. Most recently, Israel launched a fierce airstrike on Iran on October 26 in retaliation for Tehran launching about 180 missiles towards Tel Aviv on October 1.
