Domestic and world coffee prices continue to rise, no longer a short-term fluctuation but due to many underlying causes such as unfavorable weather, increased production costs, and changes in trade policy and global supply chains.
According to Reuters, Vietnamese farmers are limiting sales due to recent price drops. A trader in Dak Lak said: "Farmers do not want to sell when the price does not exceed 100,000 VND/kg."
Ahead of the August 1 reciprocal tariffs, many roasters are ramping up their stocks to take advantage of the current 10% import tax. Brazil (the world’s largest coffee exporter) will be taxed at 50%, while Indonesia (ranked 4th) will be taxed at 19%.
World coffee prices today
On the London Stock Exchange, the online price of Robusta coffee futures for September 2025 delivery closed the trading session on July 26 at $3,252/ton, down 2.9% ($97/ton) from the previous session. The November 2025 futures contract fell 2.51% ($83/ton) to $3,221/ton.
On the New York Mercantile Exchange, the price of Arabica coffee for September 2025 delivery decreased by 2% (6.1 US cents/pound) to 298.75 US cents/pound. The contract for December 2025 delivery decreased by 1.84% (5.45 US cents/pound) to 291.55 US cents/pound.
On the Brazilian exchange, the price of Arabica coffee for delivery in September 2025 decreased by 0.67% (2.5 US cents/pound) to 370.35 US cents/pound. The contract for delivery in December 2025 decreased by 0.33% (1.2 US cents/pound) to 360.5 US cents/pound.
According to the FAO forecast, world coffee prices will remain high in 2025 due to scarce supply. Causes include extreme weather, rising production costs, labor shortages and unimproved logistics risks. In addition, trade tensions and new policies from major markets such as the US and EU also contribute to the price increase.
FAO said global coffee production in the 2024-2025 crop year could decline slightly due to prolonged drought in Brazil and low yields in Vietnam. Meanwhile, global demand remains strong, especially in developing markets, causing supply to fall short of demand and prices to remain high.
Arabica is now twice as expensive as Robusta, whereas last year Robusta was more expensive. That’s because Robusta is easier to grow and less affected by weather than Arabica, allowing supplies to recover more quickly. The price gap formed when Arabica rose sharply but fell more slowly than Robusta.
