Announcing the decision to establish the APEC 2027 National Committee

On the afternoon of July 28, Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired the announcement ceremony of the APEC 2027 National Committee. Attending the ceremony at the An Giang province bridge were alternate member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Mung; leaders of provincial departments, branches and sectors and the People's Committee of Phu Quoc special zone.

At the ceremony, the Government Office announced Decision No. 1507/QD-TTg, dated July 10, 2025 of the Prime Minister on the establishment of the APEC 2027 National Committee; announced Decision No. 1508/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister on promulgating the operating regulations of the APEC 2027 National Committee.

The APEC 2027 National Committee is chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, with members including leaders of central ministries, branches, and the Chairman of the An Giang Provincial People's Committee.

The Committee is responsible for assisting the Prime Minister in directing, urging and coordinating between sub-committees and the secretariat, ministries, branches, localities and relevant agencies in the process of preparing and organizing conferences and activities of APEC 2027.

The APEC 2027 National Committee consists of 5 subcommittees and a secretariat, specifically: The Content Subcommittee is co-chaired by the leaders of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Industry and Trade; The Materials and Logistics Subcommittee is chaired by the leaders of the Government Office; The Security and Health Subcommittee is chaired by the leaders of the Ministry of Public Security; The Propaganda - Culture Subcommittee and the Protocol Subcommittee are chaired by the leaders of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Secretariat is a permanent unit assisting the National Committee.

Speaking at the announcement ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that hosting the APEC 2027 Summit is both a great honor for Vietnam and a noble international responsibility, demonstrating Vietnam's sense of responsibility to the international community; proving the trust and confidence of APEC member countries in Vietnam.

The year 2027 marks nearly 30 years since Vietnam became a member of APEC. Throughout that journey, the Asia-Pacific region and the APEC forum have always been important priorities in Vietnam's foreign policy.

Vietnam's foreign policy is independent, self-reliant, diversified, multilateralized, being a friend, a good and trustworthy partner of all countries in the world, a responsible member of the international community for the goal of peace, cooperation and development. At the same time, Vietnam pursues the building of an independent, self-reliant, deeply integrated, substantial and effective economy. From a country under embargo, Vietnam now has relations with all countries in the world, being a comprehensive strategic partner with most APEC member countries.

The Prime Minister affirmed that for Vietnam, APEC cooperation is an important driving force to open markets, attract investment, transfer technology and improve the competitiveness of the economy. Vietnam is restructuring its economy towards developing services and industry, narrowing agricultural development, renewing the growth model based on science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, green transformation, circular economy, and knowledge economy. Therefore, all-round cooperation with APEC member countries is extremely important.

After hosting the APEC Summit twice, Vietnam has accumulated some experience and shared organizational experience from international friends. Vietnam will strive and do its best to successfully organize the APEC Summit 2027.

The 2027 APEC conference will be held in Phu Quoc special zone. Vietnam is currently expanding Phu Quoc International Airport and investing in upgrading and building facilities to serve the conference organization.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that Vietnam is determined to organize the APEC 2027 Summit towards success in both multilateral and bilateral aspects, both regional and international aspects, contributing to concretizing APEC's action programs and visions, further promoting APEC's role as a driver of growth and economic connectivity in the region and the world; affirming Vietnam's position and stature in the international arena, strengthening bilateral relations between Vietnam and member economies and other partners.

For the APEC National Committee, the Prime Minister suggested focusing on implementing “5 developments”: First, promoting the spirit of cooperation among APEC members; second, promoting the spirit of innovation, both inheriting and innovating; third, promoting the spirit of unity, determination, and high sense of responsibility among agencies and localities in organizing and ensuring that projects are completed on schedule, with quality, ensuring architecture, and a bright - green - clean - beautiful environment;

Fourth, promote the support and coordination of APEC members, the participation and contributions of people and businesses, and promote public-private cooperation in organizing APEC; fifth, promote the results of APEC conferences to be more effective in developing the economy of each country, and achieve the goals of each APEC session.
