As the thinning and intensive care period begins, the footprints of farmers are more prominent on the rice fields still damp with dew. Taking advantage of the favorable weather, the farmers diligently thin out the rice plants and adjust their density. This meticulous and time-consuming work is crucial for the growth of the rice plants and the outcome of the entire harvest.

Having been involved in farming for nearly 40 years, Mr. Nguyen Van Hanh (Trung Xa village, Xuan Loc commune) shared: “Careful thinning and proper water management from the beginning ensures healthy rice plants, even tillering, and fewer pest and disease outbreaks. Even though the end of the year is busy, for us farmers, only when the farming work is completed can we truly feel at ease and more cheerful for Tet.”
From fragmented and small plots of land, in recent years, many localities have boldly implemented land consolidation and accumulation, creating a foundation for farmers to expand their scale, apply technology, and organize production in a more systematic way. When land is contiguous and divided into plots, along with a comprehensively invested infrastructure system, the production mindset of farmers has also gradually changed, moving beyond simply "making enough to eat" and towards long-term efficiency.

During this transition, Mr. Nguyen Bang Tan - Director of Dong Tien Agricultural Cooperative (Tran Phu Ward) - was one of the farmers who boldly adopted the concentrated production model. Currently, he is cultivating rice on an area of nearly 7 hectares.
Mr. Tan said: “With large-scale production, many stages have been mechanized, such as machine transplanting, drone spraying of pesticides and fertilizers, which helps reduce labor days and production costs. During this stage, we focus on regulating water levels, controlling certain pests and diseases, and ensuring uniform rice growth from the beginning.”

In the spring of 2026, Ha Tinh province cultivated over 59,000 hectares of rice. Thanks to favorable weather conditions and the proactive efforts of local authorities and farmers, the rice plants are growing and developing well. Notably, this spring, 4,150 hectares of rice are applying the alternating wet-dry irrigation method, gradually creating a shift towards sustainable rice production. This is a new production method, so the guidance, direction, and implementation are receiving special attention from all levels and sectors.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Huyen Luong, agricultural specialist in Duc Thinh commune, shared: “The commune continues to closely coordinate with the irrigation management unit to regulate water appropriately in the post-planting stage, and at the same time continues to work alongside farmers to care for rice according to proper technical procedures, ensuring effective cultivation.”

Through training sessions and hands-on guidance, new methods are gradually being adopted, learned, and applied by farmers in their production practices. Ms. Tran Thi Phuong (Dong Kinh commune) shared: "Instead of worrying about the fields running dry like before, we are getting used to maintaining the water level according to the instructions of the technical staff in the initial stage. With specific guidance, the farmers just follow along."
At this time of year, farmers throughout the lowlands and highlands are busy preparing for the spring peanut and corn crop. In the concentrated crop fields, the atmosphere of labor in the last days of the twelfth lunar month becomes more vibrant. Some are tilling the soil, others are sowing seeds, and still others are tending the rows... Each seed sown not only marks the beginning of a new season but also carries the farmers' hopes for fertility and abundance in the coming year.

Ms. Tran Thi Minh (Huong Dai village, Thuong Duc commune) shared: “As spring arrives, the weather warms up, the soil is moist, and there is more sunshine – it's the most suitable time to sow peanuts. At the beginning of the season, everything seems to go smoothly; the plants will germinate well, and everyone is excited, hoping for favorable weather, a bountiful harvest, and economic development in the new year.”
Thanks to the proactive production guidance of the authorities at all levels and the positive spirit of the people, the progress of planting peanuts and spring corn this year throughout the province has been accelerated compared to previous years. The province has completed nearly 2,000 out of 5,600 hectares of peanuts and over 4,300 out of 6,800 hectares of spring corn. Areas that have been planted early will create favorable conditions for care and pest control right from the beginning of the season.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Bac, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Mai Phu commune, said: "With the warm and sunny weather, the local authorities are focusing on directing and urging farmers to speed up the planting of spring peanuts, ensuring it is done according to the seasonal schedule. The commune is also actively providing technical support, advising on potential pests and diseases, and guiding the use of pesticides to help the crops grow and develop well."
In the rhythm of nature's transformation, farmers are preparing to welcome the new year with a proactive and hopeful spirit. This spring is not only evident in the green of the crops, but also shines in the eyes, smiles, and unwavering faith of those who have dedicated their lives to the fields and their homeland.
