Dailymail reported that the Portuguese team has announced a list of 26 players preparing for 2 matches in the Euro 2024 qualifiers. Notably, among them is striker Ronaldo .
According to the plan, coach Roberto Martinez's team will start the Euro 2024 qualifying campaign in Group J with a match against Liechtenstein on March 24, then against Luxembourg on March 27. The remaining three opponents are Bosnia & Herzegovina, Slovakia and Iceland.
“Ronaldo is a player who is always dedicated and devoted to the national team. I don’t look at his age but at the experience he can bring to the team. He is a very important factor,” Dailymail quoted coach Roberto Martinez explaining the reason for choosing CR7.
Previously, coach Roberto Martinez had gone to Saudi Arabia to watch the friendly match between Saudi All-Star (with Ronaldo) and PSG as part of the Paris club's tour, then he discussed with the striker born in 1985 about his future in the national team.
After Portugal's defeat to Morocco in the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Ronaldo refused to share about the possibility of continuing to accompany the national team.
Overall, the members of the Portuguese team this time have not changed much compared to the squad that attended the 2022 World Cup . Notably, veteran Pepe still appeared when he showed his endurance at the age of 40.
Meanwhile, the two Manchester clubs contribute up to 5 players to the Portuguese team. Specifically, Man City has Bernardo Silva, Ruben Dias and Joao Cancelo (currently playing for Bayern Munich on loan until the end of the season), while Man Utd has Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot.
