In addition, the three companies sold about 70,000 copies of her e-books. From October 10 to 13, the Yes 24 and Kyobo systems sold an average of 136 copies per minute.

Shares of several online book retailers rose sharply on October 11. Less than a day after the 2024 Nobel Prize in Literature was announced, South Koreans lined up outside Kyobo Book Center in Seoul to buy Han Kang's books.

According to ET News, the stocks of the units increased sharply, thanks to the author effect. Not only in Korea, readers in neighboring Japan also hunted for Han Kang's books.

Everything related to the writer became a searched keyword. A video clip of author Kim Hyun Ah predicting she would win the prize in 2022 "hot" again.

Kim Hyun Ah said at that time: "I think a Korean writer will win the Nobel Prize in Literature within the next five years. Really. I hope it is Han Kang."

The music industry has also been affected by the Han Kang "fever". The song about the flow of the Han River by the group Akdong Musician, released five years ago, has just entered the top 10 on the Melon chart in Korea, after a video of the writer saying he cried when listening to the song went viral.

According to the Swedish Academy, Han Kang won the 2024 Nobel Prize in Literature for “his intensely poetic prose, which captures historical trauma and exposes the fragility of human life.”

Han Kang became the first Asian female writer and the first Korean writer to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature. Previously, the only Korean to have received a Nobel Prize was former President Kim Dae-jung (Nobel Peace Prize in 2000).

Writer Han Kang was born in 1970, the daughter of novelist Han Seung Won. She began her literary career at the age of 23. Han Kang's name became more known to international readers in 2016, when her book The Vegetarian won the International Booker Prize.

Although considered one of the most influential writers in Korea, Han Kang chose to live a private life.
