Samsung is in talks to invest in Perplexity AI and bring the startup’s AI search technology to its devices. The two companies are discussing pre-installing Perplexity’s apps and assistant on upcoming Samsung products and integrating its intelligent search feature into Samsung’s web browser, according to people familiar with the matter.
One option being discussed is incorporating Perplexity's technology into Samsung's virtual assistant Bixby.
According to sources, the South Korean manufacturer plans to announce this integration this year, with the goal of making Perplexity's AI feature the default assistant on the Galaxy S26 series, expected to launch in mid-2026. However, the detailed technology has not been confirmed and may change in the future.
Samsung is also expected to join Perplexity’s new funding round, which is expected to raise $500 million at a valuation of up to $14 billion . This move will help the Korean giant reduce its dependence on Google and open up opportunities for collaboration with other AI companies. For Perplexity, this will be its most important partnership in the mobile space, after the successful deal with Motorola.
Representatives for Samsung and Perplexity declined to comment on the matter. The two sides began negotiations earlier this year and recently met in South Korea to move closer to a formal agreement.
In addition, Samsung and Perplexity are also discussing the development of an AI-integrated operating system to take advantage of the technology's power. Recently, Apple also expressed interest in collaborating with Perplexity when looking for alternatives to Google Search and ChatGPT in Siri.
Apple Senior Vice President Eddy Cue told Google's antitrust hearing that Apple was impressed with Perplexity and had begun internal discussions about it. However, Perplexity's partnership with Samsung could make it difficult for Apple to negotiate.
