E-commerce platforms Shopee and Lazada sell many functional foods without product declaration certificates.

NDO - The Department of Food Safety (Ministry of Health) requires two e-commerce platforms Shopee and Lazada to immediately stop trading functional food products that have not been granted a certificate of product declaration registration.

On May 27, the Department of Food Safety ( Ministry of Health ) said that through post-inspection on the implementation of regulations on registration of declarations and self-declarations, production and trading of functional foods, the Department of Food Safety discovered that a number of functional food products belonging to the group of health protection foods were being advertised and traded on the Lazada e-commerce platform and the Shopee e-commerce platform without being granted a Certificate of Acceptance of Product Declaration Registration.

Products that have not been granted a Certificate of Product Declaration Registration include: Omega 3-6-9 1600mg; Natto Kinase 4000fu; Estroven-Complete Multi-Sympton; Kirkland Glucosamine 1500mg & Chondroitin 1200mg; Glucosamine 1500mg With MSM 1500mg.

To ensure the health and rights of users as well as the production and trading of functional foods in compliance with the provisions of law, the Department of Food Safety issued Official Dispatch No. 1098/ATTP-SP dated May 26, 2025 and Official Dispatch No. 1097/ATTP-SP dated May 26, 2025 requesting Lazada Vietnam E-commerce Company Limited and Shopee Company Limited to seriously carry out the following activities:

Urgently review the business and electronic transactions of functional food products, only trade functional food products that have been granted a Certificate of Product Declaration Registration by a competent State management agency or have been announced on the Food Safety Data Information System according to regulations.

In addition, these e-commerce platforms need to immediately stop trading and remove information about the above products.

At the same time, the floors need to report the results in writing to the Department of Food Safety (Ministry of Health ) before May 30, 2025.

Recently, the Food Safety Department discovered that many functional food products have not been granted a Certificate of Registration of Declaration or a Certificate of Advertising Content but are still advertised and sold on e-commerce platforms, websites, social networks, and even products containing banned substances are still widely sold.

A product declaration registration certificate is a document issued by a competent State agency after an organization or individual registers a product declaration in accordance with the provisions of law. This document confirms that the product has been registered and meets safety and quality requirements to be allowed to circulate on the market.

This certificate of acceptance is often applied to products such as: Functional foods, health protection foods; Cosmetics; Regular food products; Other products with hygiene and safety requirements.
