Producing clean water from Red River surface water

Việt NamViệt Nam10/09/2024

According to the water supply planning of Ha Nam province by 2030, the whole province will have about 40 clean water supply factories. The main water supply source for the factories is surface water from the Red River and the Day River. If the Day River is polluted, the Red River water will be used as the main input source. Recently, many companies in the province have focused on exploiting the Red River water as an input source for factories, gradually improving the quality of domestic water serving households.

The planning objective is to maintain stable and safe water supply services, ensuring the best quality for people and businesses in the province. It is determined that by 2030, the whole province will have about 40 clean water supply plants; the coverage rate of clean water supply services from the centralized water supply system in rural areas will reach 100%; continuous water supply services, with enough pressure 24 hours a day for urban areas; reducing the rate of clean water loss and revenue loss to less than 15% in urban areas, less than 20% in rural areas. The domestic water supply standard for Phu Ly city in the period of 2030 is 150-180 liters/person/day and night. For the remaining urban areas, it is 120-150 liters/person/day and night. For rural areas by 2030, it is 100 liters/person/day and night. Concentrated industrial water supply standard 22-25m3/ha day and night.

In fact, in recent times, many enterprises in the province have focused on exploiting the Red River water as an input source for clean water supply factories. Typically, Ha Nam Clean Water Joint Stock Company has put into stable operation a clean water factory in Moc Nam commune (Duy Tien town). This is a clean water factory that exploits surface water from the Red River to process into clean water for daily use for people in the province. According to the design, the factory is built in 2 phases, in which the capacity of phase I is 60 thousand m3/day and night and phase II is 120 thousand m3/day and night.

SETFIL Ha Nam Clean Water Plant staff operate the water treatment and supply system to serve businesses in Dong Van Industrial Park.

Mr. Pham Trong Khoi, Director of Ha Nam Clean Water Joint Stock Company, said: The advantages of the Red River water are currently fast flow, guaranteed raw water source, and lower pollution rate compared to the Day River and Chau River. To proactively provide input sources for the factory in Moc Nam commune, the company has built a large reservoir to settle alluvium, then pump it to the treatment area according to the process. Currently, customers in Duy Tien town, Dong Van I, II, III Industrial Parks and most customers in the inner city of Phu Ly are using water from the Red River Water Plant. In particular, when the Red River Water Plant is put into stable operation, the enterprise will gradually limit the exploitation of input sources in the Day River. In case the Day River water is polluted, the company will exploit the Red River water as an input source to treat it into clean water for people's daily life.

Dong Tien Thanh Ha Nam Co., Ltd. is also the unit that is exploiting Red River water as an input source for factories in Nguyen Ly and Hop Ly (Ly Nhan) communes. The clean water project in Hop Ly and Nguyen Ly communes serves the people of 9 communes in the north of Ly Nhan district. The clean water project in Nguyen Ly commune started construction in 2012, with a capacity of 2,800 m3/day and night. This is a relatively modern investment project, exploiting Red River water as an input source to process into clean water for people's lives. For the water supply plant in Hop Ly commune, according to the initial design, the water supply was exploited from Chau River, then Dong Tien Thanh Ha Nam Co., Ltd. requested to build a pipeline to get the water supply from the Red River. Currently, these two factories are operating relatively stably, ensuring adequate water supply for people.

In recent years, the water of Chau River, Nhue River, and Day River has been heavily polluted due to the influence of livestock waste, domestic wastewater, production wastewater, and polluted water from Hanoi City. Meanwhile, the flow of these rivers is slow, making it difficult to treat polluted water, so in the long term, exploiting water from Chau River, Day River, and Nhue River as input sources for factories will be ineffective and difficult to ensure the quality of domestic water. Therefore, implementing a plan to take the input source of the factories from the surface water of the Red River is very important and necessary. According to the assessment of functional sectors, compared to Chau River water, the input source from the Red River is much better. With the limitation of Red River water being a lot of alluvium, clean water supply companies have built a system of raw water reservoirs to settle alluvium, then pumped to the treatment area, ensuring the quality of domestic water sources of factories serving people.
