Underpass under construction on the Tuyen Quang expressway project has collapsed.

On the evening of September 16th, Mr. Hoang Van Hai, Deputy Head of the Project Management Board for Investment and Construction of Transportation Works in Tuyen Quang Province, confirmed that the underpass collapse occurred at the construction site of the Tuyen Quang - Ha Giang expressway, in the section passing through Yen Son District, Tuyen Quang Province.

"I am currently at the scene," Mr. Hai said, adding that he would provide more details later.

Mr. Tuong Van Bich, Secretary of the Party branch of Khe Dang village, Tu Quan commune (Yen Son district), confirmed that the above incident occurred in the area at around 7 PM tonight. Mr. Bich also confirmed that there were injuries in the accident.

A representative from the Ministry of Transport (MOT) stated that the incident occurred in Tuyen Quang province. “This is a project where the People's Committee of Tuyen Quang province is the investor. The Ministry of Transport is currently requesting a report from the local authorities,” the MOT representative said.

The Tuyen Quang-Ha Giang expressway project has a total length of nearly 105km, a two-lane design, a total investment of approximately 10,000 billion VND, and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.

The project has been added by the Prime Minister to the list of national important projects and key projects in the transportation sector.

The section passing through Tuyen Quang province alone is 77km long, with an investment of approximately 6,800 billion VND. Of this, nearly 4,500 billion VND comes from the central government budget, and over 2,300 billion VND from the local government budget.

Phase 1 of the project is designed with 2 lanes for motorized vehicles and an asphalt concrete pavement. Along the route, 7 interchanges and 3 at-grade intersections are designed; 22 bridges are to be constructed, including 16 bridges on the expressway, 5 bridges on the interchange branches crossing the expressway, and 1 overpass on the cross-river crossing, along with 91 underpasses on the main route. The section passing through Tuyen Quang province is divided into 6 construction packages (from package XL19 to XL24).
