SOON CONNECTING THE HO CHI MINH CITY - LONG THANH - DAU GIAY EXPRESSWAY WITH NHON TRACH BRIDGE AND RING ROAD 3

Việt NamViệt Nam17/04/2025

Ho Chi Minh City is about to connect the middle of Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway with Nhon Trach Bridge and Ring Road 3, helping to ease traffic and add more roads from Ho Chi Minh City to Dong Nai and Long Thanh airport.

According to the planning, the Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 project has 10 interconnecting intersections and access roads to and from the expressway. To the east of Ho Chi Minh City is Thu Duc City with more than 14km of elevated road, with an intersection with the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway and Nhon Trach Bridge - Photo: CHAU TUAN

Speaking with Tuoi Tre Online, Mr. Luong Minh Phuc, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Department, said that according to the plan on April 30, 2025, the technical opening of Nhon Trach bridge connecting Ring Road 3 to Dong Nai will be implemented.

By June 30, 2025, the bridge will officially open to traffic and connect to the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway, and at the same time connect to construction package 1 of the Ring Road 3 project, section through Thu Duc City.

Nhon Trach Bridge is part of the 1A component of the Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 project, with a total length of 8.22km. Of which 6.3km passes through Dong Nai province and 1.92km through Ho Chi Minh City. The project starts at the intersection with Provincial Road 25B (Nhon Trach District, Dong Nai Province), and ends at the intersection with the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway (Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City).

Thus, if the above area is connected, from Ho Chi Minh City, people can go through Nhon Trach bridge and then onto Dong Nai's 25B road to Long Thanh airport. This will be a parallel route to the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway, helping to reduce the load on the existing expressway, while opening up a new, more convenient direction for the area.

According to the initial schedule, the nearly 15km elevated section of Ring Road 3 through Thu Duc City will be technically open to traffic by December 31, 2025, but the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has proposed to speed up and put this section into operation (vehicles can travel - PV) in 2025.

Therefore, the Traffic Department will open the Ring Road 3 section from Nhon Trach Bridge to Tan Van intersection to traffic synchronously this year.

In terms of scale, the intersection of Ring Road 3 with Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway in phase 1 will build an overpass across Ring Road 3 and 4 branches. This area will be connected to the access road through Nhon Trach Bridge towards Dong Nai, then connected to Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway to create an inter-provincial traffic axis - Photo: COMMITTEE OF TRAFFIC

In parallel with the connection of Nhon Trach Bridge, in September 2025, Ho Chi Minh City will also start construction on a 4km expansion of the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway, from An Phu intersection to Ring Road 2. When completed, this expressway will be synchronized with the traffic network in the area, making traffic more convenient.

In addition, Ho Chi Minh City is also focusing on coordinating and discussing with Binh Duong to soon have land for some items of Hanoi Highway, from the new Mien Dong Bus Station to Tan Van Interchange. This is a necessary step, because after the routes connecting to the above expressway are completed, the number of vehicles pouring into the Hanoi Highway area will increase, creating great pressure if not expanded promptly.
