Standing side by side in the era of national progress

The 10th National Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, for the term 2024-2029, takes place at a crucial historical moment in the country's reform and development: the era of national progress. In this new context, the 10th Congress is an opportunity to reaffirm the role and position of the Fatherland Front in the cause of national unity, creating social consensus to build a prosperous and powerful nation, and moving towards a new era – the era of Vietnam's national progress.

Attending the Congress, Knight of the Grand Cross Le Duc Thinh of the Universal Catholic Church stated that in recent articles such as " Determined to build a strong Party, a prosperous, democratic, just, and civilized Vietnam " and " Continuing to innovate the Party's leadership and governance methods, an urgent requirement of the new revolutionary stage ," and even in his speech at the 10th Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, General Secretary and President To Lam mentioned "the era of the Vietnamese nation's resurgence."

As a citizen of the country and a devout Catholic, he is delighted and proud of the country's achievements in reform. Looking back at the past and comparing it with previous periods, he believes that never before has Vietnam possessed such a foundation, potential, position, and international prestige as it does today – as the late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said, and as General Secretary and President To Lam affirmed, our country is in a "new era, an era of the Vietnamese nation's resurgence."

However, to ensure the people's unity and focus of their intellect on this great undertaking, according to him, the Vietnam Fatherland Front needs to better fulfill its role. First and foremost, it needs to improve its propaganda and mobilization efforts so that all segments of the population at home and our compatriots abroad understand and support the Party's guidelines and policies, and the State's laws and regulations, creating social consensus to successfully achieve the goals of socio-economic development and ensure national defense and security. The goal of building and protecting the Fatherland should be used as the driving force and common ground for propaganda, mobilization, and building a great national unity bloc.

The Front needs to unite the entire nation, paying particular attention to the unity of people of all religions, because the 27% of the population who follow religions represent a very important resource, significant both in building and developing the country and in ensuring human rights and religious freedom in Vietnam. National unity is a precious tradition and an internal strength of the Vietnamese people. National unity has become an invincible force that has helped our people overcome natural disasters and enemy threats, defeat all foreign invaders, gain national independence, and build the country.

“Vietnam has always been steadfast in its goal of leaving no one behind, and in reality, we are doing very well in that regard, especially when the country faces natural disasters, storms, and floods; this spirit becomes even more evident. I also hope that the Vietnam Fatherland Front will always be a common home so that no ethnic group or religion is outside the great national unity. Doing that well is what creates trust among the people in the Party and the State,” affirmed Knight of the Grand Cross Le Duc Thinh.

According to Knight Le Duc Thinh, in the new term, the Fatherland Front needs to better fulfill its role as the political foundation of the people's government, representing the people in social supervision and criticism to protect the legitimate rights and interests of the people. Party committees, governments, and the Fatherland Front must regularly engage in external relations, listen, learn, absorb opinions, and resolve difficulties, obstacles, and legitimate demands of the people.

“Trust the people, respect and listen to differing opinions; have specific and appropriate forms, mechanisms, and measures for the people to express their views and aspirations and exercise their right to self-governance. Implement the principle correctly: ‘the people know, the people discuss, the people do, the people inspect, the people supervise, and the people benefit,’” Knight of the Grand Cross Le Duc Thinh expressed.

During the 2024-2029 term, the Front's activities need to be reformed and focused more on the grassroots level and residential areas. The content and methods of operation should be reformed in a practical and effective way to gain the people's trust and support, and to strongly inspire the spirit of patriotic emulation and creative labor among the people in the development of the economy, culture, society, and security and order at the grassroots level.

"Continuously improving the material and spiritual lives of the people, ensuring that every citizen enjoys the fruits of the reform process. All policies and guidelines of the Party, and laws and regulations of the State are for the benefit of the people," affirmed Knight Grand Cross Le Duc Thinh.

The Fatherland Front is the common home of the great national unity bloc. Emphasizing this, Mr. Le Duc Thinh, Knight of the Grand Cross of the Universal Catholic Church, expressed his wish that the Fatherland Front should pay attention to, care for, and promote the role of exemplary individuals in society, among ethnic groups, religions, intellectuals, and Vietnamese people abroad. Because they are not only citizens but also represent the voices of many people and many segments of society.

"It is also important for the people to see that unity is a major policy and principle of the Party and the State, not just a task," affirmed Knight Grand Cross Le Duc Thinh.
