While some schools' benchmark scores are expected to increase unexpectedly in many majors, some schools also said that this year's benchmark scores tend to decrease slightly.
Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry: Standard scores for many majors increased sharply
According to Dr. Nguyen Trung Nhan - Head of Training Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, after seven virtual filtering sessions for the Southern group and four virtual filtering sessions nationwide as of the afternoon of August 19, the school's admission scores in 2025 have many unexpected fluctuations, with about 50% of majors having admission scores that have increased compared to last year.
Some industries recorded significant increases. Marketing is expected to increase by 1.5 points, while industries in the technology - engineering group such as mechatronics, electricity - electronics, and automation are expected to increase by up to 2 points. Pharmacy increased slightly by 0.5 points.
With the method of considering high school graduation exam scores, the standard scores for the school's general programs this year range from 24 to 25 points, with some programs reaching up to 26 points.
The high school transcript review method recorded very high scores, from 27 to 29 points.
In the assessment method of Ho Chi Minh City National University's competency test scores, the expected benchmark scores for each major have also increased significantly. The major with the highest expected score is 975 points, while many other majors have achieved over 800 points.
For difficult-to-recruit majors such as environment and English enhancement programs, the benchmark for competency assessment is predicted to be at the minimum level (600 points).
"After the fourth round of virtual filtering nationwide, the basic scores have also converged. According to regulations, in the remaining two virtual filtering rounds, schools can only adjust by a maximum of 10%. With the current score, it is really surprising. Tomorrow night, August 20, the school will announce the official benchmark score after the final round of virtual filtering nationwide," said Dr. Nhan.
University of Finance - Marketing: Benchmark scores slightly decreased in many majors
Contrary to the increasing trend, Dr. Le Trung Dao - Vice Principal of the University of Finance - Marketing, said that through the virtual group and national screening rounds, the school's benchmark scores this year generally tend to decrease compared to 2024.
Specifically, some majors that had high benchmark scores in previous years have slightly decreased by 0.3 to 0.5 points. Currently, majors such as international business and marketing have an expected benchmark score of over 25 points, lower than last year.
Notably, the economics major is expected to have the highest benchmark score in the school, reaching 26 points, a slight increase compared to 25 points in 2024. Meanwhile, the accounting major has the lowest benchmark score, expected to be around 23.5 points, a decrease of 1.5 points compared to last year.
Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade: hot majors are stable, engineering has increased slightly
According to MSc. Pham Thai Son - Director of the Admissions and Communications Center, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, the admission scores for the school's hot majors such as logistics, marketing and international business this year are expected to remain the same as last year, fluctuating between 23.5 - 24.5 points.
Meanwhile, engineering majors that had lower benchmark scores in last year's admission season such as electronics, automation, mechatronics, data science and information security are forecast to increase slightly to around 21 - 22 points this year due to the increasing trend of human resource demand and candidates' interest.
The remaining industries such as food technology, information technology... are expected to have the same benchmark scores as last year, without much fluctuation.
