Scottie Scheffler won his third major of his career.

History of naming

At Quail Hollow Club, Scheffler closed the final round with an even-par 71, winning by five strokes over the runner-up trio of Harris English, Bryson DeChambeau and Davis Riley.

That seemingly easy victory was shaken at times, when Scheffler was caught by Jon Rahm in the first half of the round under the scorching sun and high humidity that made every shot unpredictable.

But once again, the world No. 1's mettle spoke up on the back nine. While Rahm fell on the challenging final three holes of the "Green Mile", Scheffler accelerated to assert his class.

After his final putt, Scheffler raised his arms to a roar from the crowd, threw his hat onto the green, and hugged his wife Meredith and son Bennett.

“There are no words to describe what we have just witnessed,” his father, Scott, said emotionally. “You are so strong. We are so proud of you.”

“It's an overwhelming feeling of happiness," Scheffler said. "There's also gratitude. It's been a long week, and I fought harder than ever to win. It's been a real challenge."

At 28, Scheffler has three major titles under his belt, including two green jackets at The Masters (2022 and 2024) and now the prestigious Wanamaker Trophy. “It feels really sweet to have this trophy in your hands,” he said.

Scheffler also became the only golfer in 100 years, alongside the legendary Seve Ballesteros, to win each of his first three major titles by at least three strokes. That was the victory at The Masters 2022 by three strokes over Rory McIlroy, at The Masters 2024 by four strokes over Ludvig Aberg, and now the PGA Championship by five strokes.

This is also Scheffler's 15th PGA Tour win. Since World War II, only two legends have achieved 15 wins and 3 majors before the age of 29: Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods.

Overwhelming victory

Scheffler struggled in the first half of the round, hitting only two of the first seven fairways. He often hit the ball into the thick grass and did not have many birdie opportunities.

After losing a three-shot lead midway through the first round, Scheffler made a nine-foot birdie on the 10th hole to regain the lead. Accurate putts on the 14th and 15th holes gave Scheffler a four-shot lead heading into the “Green Mile,” and he made it five on the 16th green to seal the win.

“The last nine holes today are something I will remember for the rest of my life,” Scheffler said. “I had to fight for every shot. There were times when it seemed like everything was out of my hands, but I stood firm when I needed it most and that will stay in my memory forever.”

Rahm collapsed on the final three holes of the “Green Mile”.

Jon Rahm caught Scheffler at -9 after the 12th hole. However, he missed birdie chances at the 13th and 14th holes. After a par at the 15th hole, he hit the ball too far left at the 16th hole, leading to a bogey.

Disaster struck when the ball fell into the water on hole 17 and another tee shot into the stream on hole 18, causing Rahm to have two consecutive double bogeys. Finishing the last three holes with a score of +5, Rahm dropped to 8th place with a total score of (-4).

“I feel a little embarrassed about the way it ended,” Rahm said. “But I had to get over it, get over myself. It wasn't the end of the world.”
