What if Tom Cruise replaced Brad Pitt in the blockbuster 'F1'?

That was the question GQ magazine reporter asked director Joseph Kosinski when he assumed Tom Cruise would replace Brad Pitt in the blockbuster 'F1'.

Director Joseph Kosinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer began developing the F1 racing film starring Brad Pitt, while they were in post-production on another $1.4 billion-grossing Tom Cruise blockbuster, Top Gun: Maverick .

Tom Cruise always pushes his stunts to the limit.

"Tom always pushes the limits with stunts but at the same time is very capable and skillful. They both have natural driving talent. But I'm sure Tom can scare us a little more," Joseph Kosinski replied.

Kosinski recruited several crew members to join him and Bruckheimer in the transition from Top Gun: Maverick to F1 . Many of them were familiar with Tom Cruise's schedule on the Mission: Impossible series.

Graham Kelly, a racing supervisor, agrees with Kosinski's assessment of the hire. "We're going to have a crash," Kelly joked about Tom Cruise taking the lead role in F1 instead of Brad Pitt. "Tom pushes the envelope. That scares me. I've done a lot of Mission: Impossible movies with Tom and it's the most nerve-wracking experience for someone like me, building cars for him, doing stunts with him. Whereas Brad Pitt listens and he knows what he's capable of. I think Brad would be the first to say, 'Okay, I'm not going to do that.'"

F1 marked Kosinski's full-blown success. Before Top Gun: Maverick , the director had actually been developing his own version of Ford v Ferrari , with Cruise and Pitt attached to star. Both actors wanted to drive the cars themselves in the film, but Kosinski's proposed budget to the studio was so high that the project could not move forward...

Tom Cruise is currently in theaters promoting his blockbuster Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, which has just been released and grossed $200 million worldwide, setting a new box office record for the actor's 29-year-old franchise. F1 will be released globally, including in Vietnam, on June 27.
