MU has been pursuing Mbeumo for several weeks now. The Cameroonian striker himself has expressed his desire to move to Old Trafford, instead of reuniting with former coach Thomas Frank at Tottenham.

However, the latest offer for Mbeumo worth £55m plus add-ons has not satisfied Brentford, as they are waiting for at least the £62.5m fee that MU paid Wolves for Matheus Cunha.

Speaking to the media, Brentford Football Director Phil Giles said: "Mbeumo has his own views on what he wants to develop his career.

There have been a number of discussions over the past few weeks. We have made it clear that, after his impressive season, if Mbeumo wanted to move and the right financial offer came in, the club would be open to a transfer.

But if he continues to play here next season, that wouldn't be too surprising. We'd be delighted. It would save me a terrible headache, too."

Brentford have just lost head coach Frank and four assistants. In addition, Arsenal are close to signing captain Christian Norgaard in a deal worth up to £15 million.

Despite the changes, the "bees" leadership remains relaxed and confident in the way the team operates. They have just announced new head coach Keith Andrews.

Director Phil Giles also cited Brentford's past replacement of Neal Maupay with Ollie Watkins and Ollie Watkins with Ivan Toney to confirm that they are not panicking about personnel changes.
