Once expected to be one of the most competitive advanced education villages in Southeast Asia, the international education village project is still an empty lot after nearly 14 years of launching.
The international education village project was "launched" in May 2010 and is expected to start construction in October of the same year, on the occasion of the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long - Hanoi .
The project is located adjacent to Highway 70 in the West of Hanoi City, in the territory of Tay Mo and Xuan Phuong communes of Tu Liem District (now Tay Mo Ward and Xuan Phuong Ward of Nam Tu Liem District) and Van Canh Commune, Hoai Duc District. The total area in the detailed planning of the project announced at that time was about 31.6 hectares and could accommodate 3,000 students. The project is invested by Thien Huong International Education Village Joint Stock Company with a capital of about 1,088 billion VND and is expected to come into operation in 2014.
At the time of announcement and handover of the detailed planning, the international education village is expected to organize training for preschool, primary, secondary and high school students, along with educational activities and providing accompanying services for children of foreigners living in Vietnam and Vietnamese students.
However, according to Dan Viet reporter, the project is currently still an empty lot, the project land has only just started construction of the project site.
A small number of machines and workers are working inside the international education village project.
The inside of the project is overgrown with grass.
The international education village project located on prime land in Hanoi remains motionless after many years.
Outside the area is fenced with corrugated iron, some locations are occupied by people as a gathering area for construction materials.
The sidewalk is overgrown with grass because it is not regularly maintained or cared for.
Faced with the project's slow progress, the Hanoi People's Committee has repeatedly issued documents to adjust the planning and urge the project's progress.
According to the 2023 land use plan of Nam Tu Liem district, the international education village project is still on the list of projects to be implemented. However, the project area has been reduced by 3.96 hectares, down to 27.64 hectares.
