Cooperative economic development - seen from model examples

Over the past 5 years, Lam Dong province (old) has reviewed and built model cooperatives (HTX) in production, business activities, and value chain linkages, creating positive effects to expand the collective economic sector in the area.

Accordingly, Lam Dong province has selected 3 model cooperatives for producing OCOP products associated with rural and mountainous tourism (Song Vu Organic Agricultural Service Cooperative); enterprises participating in cooperative members producing and processing agricultural, forestry and fishery products (Da Lat Garden General Agricultural Service Cooperative); undertaking input and output services in the agricultural value chain (An Phu General Agricultural Service Cooperative). All 3 cooperatives have received state budget training to improve the capacity of cooperative members on the 2023 Law on Cooperatives; sales skills on e-commerce platforms, basic livestream skills; application of digital transformation in agriculture and management and operation at cooperatives, rural tourism associated with cooperative development and agricultural tourism services; business connection between cooperatives and enterprises supplying vegetable, root, fruit varieties, fertilizers, input materials and consuming output products...

At the same time, the state budget supports 3 model cooperatives to build 3 projects including: Circular agricultural production applying technical advances in processing and recycling post-harvest by-products on a large scale of high-tech cultivation areas associated with the preliminary processing of vegetables, tubers and fruits, reducing input substrate costs; linking production, harvesting, preliminary processing and processing associated with the consumption of vegetables, tubers and fruits; linking preliminary processing and processing associated with the consumption of coffee products. Through the project, 3 model cooperatives continue to be supported with additional machinery to improve the efficiency of production and processing of agricultural products such as: Heat dryer (20 kg/batch); cold dryer (50 kg/batch); coffee leaf screening machine. Song Vu Organic Agricultural Service Cooperative is also supported with 50,000 QR codes for Cau Dat green Catimor coffee products; Cau Dat whole Catimor beans; Cau Dat ground Catimor; Support 1 brand for 2 groups of service products; grant organic certification on a total area of 50 hectares of coffee and tea. An Phu General Agricultural Service Cooperative is supported with a code for growing bell peppers with an area of 8,600 ^m2 .

Up to now, the model of the Vuon Nha Da Lat General Agricultural Service Cooperative has linked farmers in the area to produce key vegetables, tubers and fruits with stable consumption in the market such as squash noodles, purple carrots, sweet peppers, and at the same time, freeze-drying them using high-tech machinery lines according to global HACCP standards on food safety, including: dried Laba Cau Dat bananas and wind-dried persimmons; celery powder, perilla powder... The model of the An Phu General Agricultural Service Cooperative has cooperated with dozens of farmers to provide high-quality vegetable, tubers and fruit varieties, produce according to seasonal plans, transfer high-tech production techniques and purchase all products. The model of the Song Vu Organic Agricultural Service Cooperative has completed the organic production process on an area of 50 hectares of associated farmers in the area. The cooperative consumes the organic coffee output of associated farmers for processing, with a consumption rate of 30% for export markets to Japan, Norway, and the US and 70% for the domestic market.

According to Lam Dong authorities, from the three model agricultural cooperatives mentioned above, the province will continue to expand to 10 agricultural cooperatives in the next 5 years. These new model cooperatives will play a pioneering role in developing value chain linkages with enterprises, cooperatives, and farmers inside and outside the members; enhancing digital transformation, applying high technology in production and processing; and improving the competitiveness of high-quality agricultural products in the domestic and export markets.
