Following the interview process, the organizing committee selected 90 official delegates, comprising Vietnamese and international students from 32 universities and colleges in 11 countries, to attend the 8th ISSF Forum in 2024, held in Ho Chi Minh City.
Malaysia and the Philippines had the highest number of international delegates attending the forum, with 19 students each.
On August 2nd, international delegates gathered at the Ho Chi Minh City Academy of Cadres (Binh Thanh District) to attend the forum. Here, the international student delegates spent two days experiencing Ho Chi Minh City, sharing their thoughts on the theme "Youth playing a pioneering and volunteer role for the community: From local to global."
39 papers from 32 schools were divided into two subcommittees: a subcommittee on experiences, mechanisms, and policies to promote volunteer activities, and a subcommittee on digital transformation in volunteer activities. Students presented their opinions and solutions to the scientific council through poster presentations. The five best papers from each subcommittee were selected for the presentation session.
The Scientific Council included: Mr. Agustaviano Sofjan, Consul General of Indonesia in Ho Chi Minh City; Prof. Dr. Le Van Canh, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, Head of the Ho Chi Minh City Young Scientists Club; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jiraporn Chano, Lecturer at Mahasarakham University; Assoc. Prof. Kanyarat Sonsupap, Mahasarakham University; and Dr. Siti Hafsah Zulkarnain, Director of the Student Entrepreneurship Center, MASMED.
International students confidently present their ideas.
Sharing before the scientific council, Russian student Nikita Lysenko stated that Russia and Vietnam have a very good cooperative relationship. Based on evidence and materials they had researched beforehand, the group of Russian students presented innovative ideas in education and international volunteer activities.
At the forum, the Malaysian student group researched volunteer activities for sustainable education through the CINTAI program, which aims to educate primary school students about waste management and environmental protection.
"By utilizing innovative teaching methods, the CINTAI program has significantly enhanced students' knowledge and attitudes toward environmental protection," the student group shared.
The group of Russian students presented their paper to the scientific panel.
It's not simply about researching effective volunteer activities in the community in general and education in particular. Many presentations highlighted the role of applying digital transformation and technology to volunteer activities to increase their impact on the community.
The 8th ISSF Forum, 2024, is jointly organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Student Union, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, the Center for Young Scientists and Technologists Development, in collaboration with the Vingroup Innovation Fund, the Vietnam-Southeast Asia Friendship Association of Ho Chi Minh City, and the Ho Chi Minh City Young Scientists Club.
The forum was organized to create an environment for interaction, learning, and exchange among students in Ho Chi Minh City, international students studying and living in Vietnam, and international students in the region and around the world.
In addition, the forum aims to promote the sharing within the student research community of innovative initiatives and solutions to enhance the responsibility and contribution of young people to important social issues at home and around the world.
In particular, it aims to strengthen exchanges and solidarity among students from ASEAN countries, countries and territories around the world, and between Vietnamese students and international students.
International students visit the Ho Chi Minh City National University urban area on the morning of August 3rd.
The forum helps international students connect with each other more.
In addition, delegates will learn about the history and culture of Vietnam through visits to various locations: the National University urban area, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, the Ho Chi Minh Museum, Ben Thanh Market, and an experience on a double-decker bus tour around the city.
