(Dan Tri Newspaper) - Jannik Sinner experienced some health issues while competing in the fourth round of the Australian Open against Holger Rune today (January 20). However, the Italian player still won after four sets.
On January 20th, top seed Jannik Sinner showed incredible physical recovery to defeat Holger Rune 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, securing his place in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Australian Open.
Before the match, the world number one skipped practice and consulted with the tournament doctor. Sinner will face the winner of the match between Alex de Minaur and young American Alex Michelsen for a place in the semi-finals.
"I think we saw today that I was having a bit of a physical struggle. I knew it was going to be tough today. You know, I was up against a tough opponent, but I was also up against myself a little bit," Sinner shared in the post-fight press conference.

The ATP Finals champion was seen limping at times during the match, but Sinner dismissed suggestions that he was injured. "When I'm not feeling well on the court, sometimes I tend to walk a little bit to the left. But that doesn't mean I'm injured, not at all. It's just a bit of a health issue, but overall I'm fine," Sinner added.
In the 32°C heat of Melbourne, Sinner requested a timeout for medical attention midway through the third set. After saving three break points early in the set, Sinner went to his chair, applied an ice pack to his face, and his right hand twitched uncontrollably.
Despite being exhausted after returning from treatment, Sinner moved better as the set progressed. Supported by 16 unforced errors from Rune, Sinner won the third set and broke serve early in the fourth set to reach the quarterfinals at Melbourne Park for the third time.
Sinner recovered so quickly that his powerful first serve in the first service game of the fourth set shattered a metal ring connecting the bottom of the net to the court, leading to a 21-minute stoppage in play for repairs.
Sinner won 83% of first serve points compared to Rune's 66%, hitting 35 winners and making 35 unforced errors compared to Rune's 31-54 record.
"Of course, the time I spent on the court allowed me to talk a little bit with the doctor. That helped me today, and it also shows how great this tournament is being organized," Sinner said. The Italian player extended her lead to 3-2 in the series against Rune.
