In the first round of Roland Garros 2025 on the evening of May 26, Sinner easily defeated Arthur Rinderknech with a score of 6-4, 6-3, 7-5. Notably, in the third set, despite being down 0-4, the world No. 1 tennis player was still able to finish the match without losing any set.

Before Sinner, the list of players to have achieved this remarkable milestone included only the illustrious names Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz. The last time Sinner suffered a defeat at a Grand Slam was in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon in 2024. Since then, he has won the US Open and Australian Open consecutively, demonstrating his top form and incredible consistency.

Sinner's winning streak could be extended when he faces veteran Richard Gasquet in the second round on May 28, followed by Jiri Lehecka or Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the third round. It's not until the quarterfinals that Sinner has a real chance of facing a formidable opponent like Alex De Minaur or Jack Draper.

Last year, the Italian reached the semi-finals of Roland Garros and only lost to Alcaraz after five tense sets.

After the match, Sinner expressed his admiration for the previous generations: "We are so lucky to compete and grow up in the era of great players like Nadal. What Nadal has done at Roland Garros is unbelievable. His confrontations with Federer and Djokovic will be remembered forever. I am very lucky to find inspiration from their success."

Just a day before Sinner's match, Rafael Nadal was honored by Roland Garros in a meaningful way. The "King of Clay"'s footprint and record of 14 championships were imprinted on the main Philippe Chatrier court, recognizing his great contributions to this tournament.

When asked about Sinner, Nadal gave sincere compliments to his junior who is currently holding the world No. 1 position: "He has had a difficult year but has always maintained emotional stability. That is great maturity. Personally, I always believe that Sinner did not intend to cheat, but you cannot avoid the noise. Sinner's performance on the court is a positive thing for tennis and I hope he can maintain it."

Sinner has now held the world No. 1 ranking for 51 consecutive weeks, ranking 13th in ATP Tour history and second among active players, behind Djokovic. The 23-year-old is expected to maintain that ranking until Wimbledon, thanks to a nearly 2,000-point lead over Alcaraz.
