Measles cases decrease, hand-foot-mouth disease increases

According to the Hai Duong Provincial Center for Disease Control, last week (from May 5 to 11), the number of measles cases in the province continued to decrease. During the week, only 31 cases were recorded in Thanh Mien, Tu Ky districts, Hai Duong city and Chi Linh city, a decrease of 51 cases compared to the previous week. The number of measles cases decreased because the transitional season has passed, there is no longer humidity, so the disease has limited its spread. On the other hand, in recent times, localities have effectively implemented measles vaccination campaigns for children, improving community immunity.

While the number of measles cases has decreased, hand, foot and mouth disease in Hai Duong has tended to increase. Last week, the whole province had 28 cases, an increase of 14 cases compared to the previous week. The patients were all children under 5 years old. Hand, foot and mouth disease is easily spread, developing into an epidemic in hot and rainy weather conditions. There is currently no vaccine to prevent hand, foot and mouth disease.

The provincial Center for Disease Control recommends that the Medical Centers of districts, cities and towns closely monitor the situation of infectious diseases, especially the increasing hand, foot and mouth disease, to promptly deploy effective epidemic prevention measures.
