Nghe An Department of Tourism celebrates 30th anniversary

On the morning of July 5, Nghe An Department of Tourism held a ceremony to celebrate its 30th anniversary (July 5, 1994 - July 5, 2024) and the 64th anniversary of the traditional day of Vietnam Tourism Industry, July 9.

Attending the ceremony were comrade Ho An Phong - Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism. On the side of Nghe An province, there were comrades: Nguyen Van Thong - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Nguyen Duc Trung - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.

On July 5, 1994, in response to new development requirements, the Provincial People's Committee issued Decision No. 673 on the establishment of Nghe An Department of Tourism. In 2008, implementing Decree 13 of the Government, the Department of Tourism was merged with the Department of Culture - Information, Department of Physical Education - Sports to form the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism. In 2017, implementing Resolution 36 of the Nghe An Provincial People's Council, the Department of Tourism was re-established.

Looking back on the 30-year journey of construction and development, tourism has increasingly affirmed its position, gradually becoming an important economic sector, making a worthy contribution to the socio-economic development of the province. Currently, the Provincial People's Committee has approved the strategy for developing Nghe An tourism to 2030, with a vision to 2035, to implement Resolution 08 of the Politburo and Action Program No. 55 to develop tourism into a spearhead economic sector in the period 2017 - 2030 of the Provincial Party Standing Committee. The system of tourism service facilities has developed rapidly in both scale and quality. To date, the province has 928 accommodation establishments with more than 22,000 rooms, nearly 70 travel agencies and branches, and 29 tourist destinations recognized by the Provincial People's Committee as provincial-level tourist destinations. Tourism products are increasingly diverse and quality is being innovated. Many cultural works, historical relics, and revolutionary relics have received investment in construction, preservation, and restoration, becoming attractive cultural and spiritual tourist destinations. In the first 6 months of 2024, the number of tourists in the province reached nearly 5.5 million, equal to 112% compared to the same period in 2023; total revenue from tourists reached more than 16,610 billion VND, of which tourism revenue is estimated at about 6,420 billion VND.

The tourism sector is striving to fulfill the targets set by the Resolution of the 19th Provincial Party Congress; focusing all resources and solutions to gradually turn Nghe An tourism into an important economic sector of the province and one of the tourism centers of the North Central region. "By 2035, Nghe An will become a global tourism destination, developing sustainably with unique tourism products, bearing the cultural imprint of Nghe An, with a green, safe, hospitable, friendly and smart tourism environment".

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho An Phong stated that Nghe An is one of 14 provinces and cities with a Department of Tourism and was established very early; demonstrating the province's strategic vision over the years. After 30 years of establishment, Nghe An tourism industry has also affirmed its position, making worthy contributions to the socio-economic development of the province. At the same time, promoting the identity and cultural values ​​of Nghe An on the tourism map of Vietnam and the world. The development of the tourism industry has promoted the development of many other sectors of the economy.

Deputy Minister Ho An Phong also suggested and oriented some contents to promote Nghe An tourism development in the coming time. That is to pay attention to investment and completion so that Kim Lien special national tourist area becomes a national tourist area. Focus on implementing the orientation of building Vinh and Dien Chau into national tourist areas according to the planning of Vietnam's tourism network to 2030, vision 2045. Speed ​​up the development of high-end tourism products in coastal areas. Urgently approve the Ecotourism Project of Pu Mat National Park and the ecotourism system according to the new Forestry Law to develop tourism products. Focus on building agricultural tourism associated with new rural areas; urgently include in the planning of historical relics and scenic spots to develop tourism resources and tourism products. In particular, it is necessary to adhere to the country's strategy to develop Nghe An tourism in the right direction and at the right level of Vietnam's tourism planning.

To achieve the above orientations and goals, the Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism said that, first of all, the province and the tourism industry must raise social awareness of tourism; tourism must be based on the foundation of culture, combining cultural industry to create sustainable growth, turning heritage into assets, turning culture into goods.

Agreeing with the direction of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Duc Trung further emphasized: Resolution No. 39 of the Politburo has directed Nghe An to become one of the tourism centers of the North Central region. To achieve that goal, the industry must further promote its potential, advantages, historical values, cultural values, and natural conditions, because currently Nghe An tourism is developing below its potential.

In the coming time, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested the Department of Tourism to focus on advising the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, and Provincial People's Committee to carry out the tasks set out in the action programs to implement the Resolutions of the Central and the province; Tourism development strategy to 2030, vision to 2035. Continue to innovate development thinking and strengthen tourism development linkage activities, to achieve the goal of making Nghe An soon become a leading locality in tourism development. Gradually restructure the tourism industry and tourism products towards improving quality and competitiveness based on specific conditions. Continue to innovate in state management of tourism. Strengthen coordination with departments, branches, and localities; promote human resource training, this is a key task to build a team of tourism professionals with good expertise, professionalism, friendliness, and hospitality.
