As one of the typical units in digital transformation in the customs industry, Huu Nghi International Border Gate Customs has proactively applied software and digital technology in customs activities.
Ms. Ha Thi Kim Dung, Captain of the Customs Department of Huu Nghi International Border Gate, said: To ensure convenient customs clearance of import and export goods at the border gate, the unit has implemented inspections through the electronic declaration system, applying the digital border gate platform... Currently, 100% of enterprises operating import and export of goods through the border gate make online declarations. Only need a certificate from the plant quarantine agency for the unit to carry out procedures to allow customs clearance for vehicles carrying fruits and agricultural products. With this solution, the customs clearance time is less than 2 minutes/vehicle.
Not only at Huu Nghi International Border Gate Customs, the application of information technology has been implemented by affiliated customs units. According to data from the Customs Branch of Region VI, from 2019 to present, the branch has invested in researching and applying 8 specialized software and professional activities.
When put into use, the software has contributed to improving the effectiveness of State management; increasing transparency and publicity and helping authorities easily monitor and control import-export activities.
Mr. Le Van Hien, Deputy Director of the Import-Export Equipment and Spare Parts Joint Stock Company, Dong Kinh Ward, said: The company regularly carries out customs clearance procedures for goods through a number of border gates in the province. Recently, the customs sector has deployed software applications in its operations, thereby creating convenience for our business in particular and import-export businesses in general. Instead of having to go directly to the border gate to carry out procedures for declaring import-export goods, paying taxes... as before, we can now do it anytime, anywhere through the electronic system.
Promoting the "digitalization" of the customs sector has brought many benefits to businesses, attracting businesses to carry out import and export through the area. From January 1 to July 28, 2025, the total number of businesses carrying out customs clearance procedures through the province's border gates was 4,269 with 106,529 declarations, an increase of over 1,000 businesses compared to the same period in 2024; the total import and export turnover of all types of goods through the area in the first 7 months of 2025 reached over 49.7 billion USD, an increase of 52.52% over the same period last year.
Mr. Ma Thanh Giang, Deputy Head of the Customs Branch of Region VI, said: In recent times, the branch has proactively and actively applied software and information technology systems in customs work. Accordingly, the branch has launched the movement "Digital literacy for the people"; deployed the model of officers and civil servants of the Customs Branch of Region VI with AI (artificial intelligence)... In addition, since April 2025, the branch has also researched and effectively deployed paperless meeting room software with integrated digital tools for document storage. The movements and models deployed have helped to arouse the spirit of emulation in learning, practicing digital skills, and applying modern technology to work. Thanks to that, it has contributed to improving the capacity of State management, facilitating import and export enterprises, and promoting customs clearance through the province's border gates. Currently, the department is continuing to invest in research and application of some new software such as tax debt management software, specialized inspection and supervision software, bringing goods into storage, etc. From there, it will strengthen the digitization of administrative procedures, promote digital transformation, and aim to build a "paperless" and "smart customs" model.
The continuous efforts of the customs force in promoting the application of technology and digital transformation have actively contributed to promoting customs clearance of goods, facilitating and attracting import-export enterprises through the area. From there, it has contributed positively to the economic growth of the province in the new development stage.
