Clause 4, Article 3 of Circular 01/2024/TT-NHNN stipulates as follows:

1. A rhyme is a word composed of 2 of the 26 letters (including: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O, P, Q, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, Z). A rhyme includes main rhymes and secondary rhymes.

2. The main rhyme is the series rhyme used to print on banknotes according to the quantity and structure of the annual printed money.

3. The secondary rhyme is the serial number used to print on replacement notes for damaged printed notes.

4. The series consists of the serial number and a series of natural numbers with the number of digits as prescribed in Clause 1, Article 5 of this Circular.

According to the above regulations, each banknote will be printed with a separate serial number, which will include the serial number and a series of natural numbers with the number of digits as prescribed by the State Bank.

In addition, printing serial numbers on Vietnamese banknotes during the money printing process is done according to the following principles:

- Serial numbers on Vietnamese currency issued before 2003 include:

+ Serial rhyme: is composed of 2 of the 26 letters (including: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O, P, Q, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, Z).

+ 07 digits: print from 0000001 onwards.

- Serial numbers on Vietnamese currency issued from 2003 onwards include:

+ Serial rhyme: is composed of 2 of the 26 letters (including: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O, P, Q, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, Z).

+ 08 digits: print the last 02 digits of the year of production of the banknote and 06 digits in the natural number series from 000001 onwards.

Principles of managing serial numbers when printing money

Article 4 of the Regulation issued together with Decision 28/2007/QD-NHNN stipulates the management of serial numbers during the money printing process of money printing factories as follows:

+ The printing factory carries out bundling, packaging, and bagging according to the factory's technological process and opens a serial record book for each type of money; ensuring that the following elements are accurately and completely recorded: used serial number (including sub-numbers), type of money, year of production, and symbols of the envelope, package, and bundle of money.

In case of printing failure (discovered after the serial printing stage), a banknote with a sub-rhyme must be used as a replacement. The printing factory must organize the records according to the factory's printing technology process.

+ Documents on serial numbers and serial number books are kept at the printing factory according to the factory's printing technology process.
