The information that cooking oil used for animal husbandry has been "magically" transformed into cooking oil for humans has made consumers confused and worried. Ms. Nguyen Thi Bang ( Hung Yen city) expressed: I am really "shocked" and worried, now I don't know how to choose a safe product anymore. Sharing the same concern, Ms. Tran Thi Thanh Nhan (An Thi town) also wondered: "Fake cooking oil is often consumed in restaurants, my family still lets my children eat at restaurants outside, so I am really worried about whether we have used this type of oil or not."
Meanwhile, many consumers have become more cautious when buying cooking oil. Mr. Tran Dinh Thom, owner of Thom Thoa grocery store (Ha Le commune, An Thi), said: In recent days, customers buying cooking oil have carefully checked each brand and even scanned QR codes to trace the origin of the product. This shows people's special concern about the problem of dirty food.
According to food technology experts, the oil used in animal husbandry is often crude oil, unrefined, containing many harmful toxins. If this type of oil is used to process food, the toxins will enter the body, causing serious health effects, especially for people with sensitive bodies.
Regarding this issue, recently , the Department of Food Safety ( Ministry of Health ) issued a warning that this is a serious violation of food safety regulations, potentially affecting public health.
The Food Safety Department recommends that food production and trading establishments, especially collective kitchens and ready-to-eat meal suppliers, should request suppliers to clarify the product's declaration and raw material records, not just rely on packaging and labels. At the same time, do not use ingredients that are not for the declared purpose in food processing, even if there are sufficient invoices and documents.
The Food Safety Department emphasized that any intentional use of ingredients other than those registered for food processing, especially in cases where ingredients are not safe for consumers, will be considered and strictly handled by authorities in accordance with the law.
Mr. Do Manh Hung, Head of the provincial Food Safety and Hygiene Department, said that to protect the health of themselves and their families, consumers should only buy cooking oil from reputable brands with clear addresses and origins, and pay attention to the production date and expiration date printed on the product. Prioritize products with anti-counterfeit stamps and QR codes to trace their origins. Consumers need to regularly update information on mass media, and avoid suspicious products. If you suspect a product is fake oil, stop using it immediately and report it to the authorities.
