It is forecasted that from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on August 1, the water level at Xa La hydrological station is likely to reach 28,510 m, about 360 cm higher than alert level 3, and 18 cm lower than the historical flood level in September 1975.

The rising river water level has caused flooding in low-lying areas along the river. In addition, due to the impact of heavy rains over the past few days, there is a high risk of flooding in some areas of 12 communes: Muong Hung, Chieng Khoong, Chieng Khuong, Chieng So, Huoi Mot, Bo Sinh, Nam Ty, Muong Lam, Song Ma (belonging to the old Song Ma district); Muong Lan, Sop Cop, Pung Banh communes (belonging to the old Sop Cop district).
Son La Province's Hydrometeorological Station also warned of a high risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams, landslides on steep hillsides and road slopes, and land subsidence in areas with poor soil structure in the province.

Facilities with suspension bridges and culverts over small rivers and streams need to warn people to be careful when moving through them during times of heavy rain and flooding. The warning level of natural disaster risk due to floods in the above communes is level 2.
Water levels on rivers and streams are rising, so there is a high risk of landslides, flooding in low-lying areas, riverbanks, and destruction of bridges, culverts, and roads along rivers and streams.
Floods, inundation, flash floods and landslides pose a risk to human life, aquaculture, agricultural production, people's livelihoods and socio-economic activities.

According to a quick report from the Civil Defense Command of Son La province, dozens of houses collapsed and were swept away, including 4 houses in Muong Lan commune that were completely destroyed. 18 villages were isolated, with communes such as Phung Banh, Chieng So, Muong Lam, Sop Cop, and Chieng Khoong deeply flooded and isolated, with some places flooded up to 2m deep. Some suspension bridges were swept away, such as in Te Tien village (Chieng So) and Muong Lam.
Traffic was congested in many places, especially on National Highway 12 and National Highway 4G. In Bo Sinh commune, many areas were flooded 1m-1.5m deep. Floodwaters continued to cause landslides, cut communication cables and lost telecommunication signals in 3 communes. More than 30,000 households lost electricity due to the impact on the power grid infrastructure.

Some households in Anh Trung village (Muong Hung) and Na Dia village (Sop Cop) are isolated and cannot be reached for rescue. The province is asking the Ministry of National Defense to send helicopters to rescue the isolated village area where 8 people are.
The Provincial People's Committee has declared a natural disaster emergency, established a forward command post in Song Ma commune, and mobilized all military, police and other relevant agencies to respond, evacuate people and overcome the consequences. Affected communes continue to review, count the damage and deploy emergency relief.
The People's Committee of Son La province has also deployed working groups led by the Chairman, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and departments, branches and sectors to communes to directly direct the response and recovery work caused by floods; at the same time, visit and encourage families affected by natural disasters.

Son La province is also focusing on directing the implementation of damage recovery, especially visiting and implementing support policies for families with victims; repairing damaged houses; handling traffic congestion; cleaning up the environment; reviewing and counting damage; and stabilizing people's lives and production.
