According to the people's reflection and videos recorded by the people. About two weeks ago, the Luc Nam River was attacked by a source of black and foul-smelling water. From upstream, the black water flowed into the area from downstream, causing the clear blue river to turn black and shrimp, crabs, and fish to die en masse.
People raise fish in cages and rafts on the river. When polluted water spreads, dead fish float on the river surface. Mr. Nguyen Van Kien in Phuong Son commune said: "The dirty water cannot flow straight to the sea because it is the dry season now, when the tide rises, the black, foul-smelling water flows back upstream."
The Luc Nam River section from Cam Ly Bridge, Luc Nam Bridge upstream for more than 10km is covered by black water that cannot flow out to the sea. For more than two weeks now, this section of the river has been seriously polluted. Shrimp and fish in the river have died en masse, and duckweed covers the river surface. Mr. Nguyen Van Kien commented: "This polluted water is most likely due to wastewater from a pig farm that broke open and was dumped into the river because the smell of pig manure is still strong. Duckweed and water fern are very rare in the river. If we follow the traces of duckweed, the authorities can find the source of the pollution."
Currently, the downstream of Luc Nam River is suffering from serious pollution. We request that the authorities of Bac Giang province promptly investigate and clarify this matter.
Luc Nam River originates in Kham mountain area in Dinh Lap district ( Lang Son province), flows through Son Dong, Luc Ngan, Luc Nam districts (Bac Giang province) and converges with Thuong River at the border between Duc Giang, Tri Yen and Hung Dao communes. Luc Nam River has tributaries such as Bo River, Le Ngac River, Chi Tac River, Dan Hoi River (on the left bank) and Can River, Gom River, Co Mat River (on the right bank). The total length of the river is nearly 200km, the section in Lang Son is 15km long, the section in Bac Giang is about 175km long. The total basin area of Luc Nam River is quite large, about 3,070km², the average basin elevation is 207m, the average basin slope is 16.5%. About 45km downstream (from Chu town, Bac Giang province to Nhan junction where it converges with Thuong River), the river is wide, convenient for waterway traffic.
