According to Neowin, gaming fans will soon receive important announcements about many PlayStation titles. Accordingly, some new reports have claimed that Sony is planning to hold a large-scale online PlayStation Showcase event on May 25, ahead of Microsoft's Xbox event.
Video game journalist Jeff Grubb first broke the news on Twitter, and several reputable industry sites like VGC have since independently confirmed the news. Sony has yet to officially announce the new Showcase event. If the rumors are true, this will be Sony's first large-scale event since late February.

The May 25 event will also serve as a warm-up for a number of similar online events to follow. First up is the VR-themed Meta Quest Gaming Showcase on June 1, followed by Summer Games Fest on June 8 and Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase alongside Starfield Direct events on June 11. Finally, the Xbox Games Showcase Extended is scheduled for June 13.
Ubisoft will also have its own event on June 12. There are even more online gaming presentations planned, like the PC Gaming Show on June 11 and the Future Games Show Summer Showcase on June 10.
In a way, all of these online events are a substitute for E3 2023, which was originally scheduled to take place in Los Angeles from June 13 to 16, but was canceled in March due to lack of interest from major game publishers.
