Sorloth rebels at Atletico

Alexander Sorloth is dissatisfied with not being given a starting position by coach Diego Simeone recently, and has asked Atletico Madrid to let him leave this summer.

Alexander Sorloth's discontent after the defeat to Espanyol has sparked rumours of a possible move away from Atlético Madrid.

In Atletico Madrid's 1-2 loss to Espanyol on the opening day of La Liga 2025/26, coach Diego Simeone prioritized Antoine Griezmann and new signing Giacomo Raspadori before bringing Sorloth on in the 73rd minute.

While on the pitch, Sorloth only touched the ball twice and did not have a shot. According to ABC , this match completely broke the relationship between Simeone and Sorloth. The Norwegian striker had expressed dissatisfaction with being benched so often last season.

In the first match of the season, the Norwegian player was very dissatisfied when new player Giacomo Raspadori was given a starting position instead of Sorloth. He asked to leave Atletico Madrid immediately, and the club was also ready to let this striker go if they received a reasonable offer.

The appearance of new signing Álex Baena or Raspadori this summer further narrowed Sorloth's chances of playing.
