In the Box Office Vietnam group, an audience member shared a screen showing the screenings of the movie "Lat mat 8: Vong tay nang" on a ticket booking app.
This person said that Lotte Cinema Go Vap, the 9pm show showed that seats A, B, C, D (close to the screen) were sold out, but the back rows were empty.
After a few hours, this person checked again and the screenings had been adjusted.
In a movie discussion group, an audience member also shared that there were only a few good seats left in the "Flip Side 8" screening, and tickets close to the screen - a place that is very difficult to watch - were sold out.
In addition, some posts reflect that many "Flip Side 8" screenings were almost sold out on the morning of May 5, but by the evening there were still many empty seats, causing inconvenience to audiences in the ticket purchasing process.
According to Lao Dong reporters, on the evening and night of May 5, some CGV cinemas in Aeon Mall, CGV Vincom Long Bien, and CGV Vincom Center Ba Trieu all had the phenomenon of selling out the front rows of seats, but the back rows were still empty.
This abnormality has made many viewers wonder whether it is a "move" from the producer to let Box Office "scan" virtual data, thereby updating the film's revenue figures, when "Lat mat 8" is in fierce competition with "Tham tu Kien".
Ly Hai - director of "Lat mat 8" previously made a statement about the film being "dirty media".
The fact that the first four rows of "Flip Side 8" screenings are sold out, but the back rows are still empty, is causing a lot of controversy and many opinions.
Speaking with Lao Dong reporter, Mr. Nguyen Khanh Duong - representative of Box Office Vietnam - said that the situation of the front rows of seats in the theater showing "sold" appeared with many movies, the main reason is that the theater chain proactively locked the area of seats close to the screen to direct the audience to buy good seats.
"When there was information that the top tickets displayed for sale focused on the movie Lat mat 8, we did not know whether the reason was due to the theater chain's decision or the influence from the distributor/production unit.
Box Office Vietnam regularly updates the screening map. It is true that there will be times when the system records tickets being held for payment (shown as sold), with a large number of tickets filled. But after about 15 minutes, when all of those tickets are released, Box Office Vietnam will record the actual number of tickets accurately," Mr. Nguyen Khanh Duong shared.
A representative of Box Office Vietnam confirmed that if a unit uses the form of temporary holding without payment, the film's revenue and ranking on the box office chart will not change.
Mr. Nguyen Khanh Duong added: "I think that booking tickets yourself does not bring financial benefits to the producer. If buying such a large number of tickets to show up high on the chart, I think it is not important enough to invest like that.
A film does not only have a main producer, but also many collective and individual investors. Investors will want real numbers, real achievements, real audiences, and no one is happy when partners spend their own money to buy tickets to see the film they invested in. To have an answer to this situation, the theater chains will know best, because they manage the ticket sales system."
The reporter continued to contact the CGV film distribution system and the producer of the film "Flip Side 8", but has not yet received an answer.
