- Work: "Northwest Thai Xoe Dance" - Taken at: Dien Bien - Unit: Individual
Introduction: The Xoe Nhom Khan (tossing scarves) dance of the Thai ethnic group shows the rhythm and regularity of a Thai community. The scarves must always be equal, not too high, not too low, raised to shoulder level and then lowered. It symbolizes the consensus between people and between ethnic groups. With the Pieu scarf, a brocade scarf worn around the neck, Thai girls express their boundless joy whenever the village has happy events such as weddings, housewarmings or bountiful harvests.
