Traffic accidents tend to decrease

Compared to the same period in 2024, the number of accidents decreased by 7 cases; the number of deaths increased by 1 person (36/35); the number of injuries decreased by 7 people (68/75). The authorities have recorded 5,186 violations, temporarily detained 2,094 vehicles, with a total fine of over 12 billion VND.

According to statistics from the National Traffic Safety Committee (NTSC), in the first quarter of 2025, there were 4,760 traffic accidents nationwide, killing 2,615 people and injuring 3,186 people. Compared to the same period in 2024, there were 1,833 fewer cases (down 27.8%), 215 fewer deaths (down 7.6%), and 2,003 fewer injuries (down 38.6%). The Ministry of Public Security directed the police of units and localities to arrange forces to organize patrols and controls (TTKS) to proactively resolve hot and complicated issues in 6 thematic groups with the result of handling over 800,000 cases of violations of road, railway and inland waterway traffic safety order, fines of over 1.7 billion VND, revocation of nearly 10,000 driving licenses, certificates, and professional certificates, and temporary detention of over 230,000 vehicles of all kinds. Compared to the same period in 2024, nearly 200,000 cases were handled (down 18.5%), and fines decreased by more than VND 271 billion (down 13.3%).

According to the National Traffic Safety Committee, ministries, sectors and localities have implemented synchronous and drastic solutions to curb traffic accidents. As a result, many positive results have been achieved, many previously common violations such as drinking alcohol, speeding, and running red lights have decreased significantly compared to the same period.

For Soc Trang province, from the beginning of 2025, which falls on the Lunar New Year, the demand for transporting goods and people's travel has increased significantly, significantly affecting the work of ensuring order and traffic safety in the province. In that situation, the People's Committee of Soc Trang province has focused on directing drastic and synchronous solutions, including promoting traffic safety inspection, promptly handling violations combined with propaganda and education. At the same time, through the Soc Trang Provincial Monitoring and Operation Center to direct, operate and coordinate solutions to effectively implement tasks to ensure traffic safety. The traffic infrastructure system has always been invested in upgrading and expanding, creating conditions for vehicles to participate in traffic conveniently and safely; promptly directing agencies and organizations to handle black spots and potential traffic accident spots arising in the province, contributing to traffic accident prevention.

During the peak period of the April 30 and May 1, 2025 holidays alone, the traffic police force organized 224 inspections, recorded 240 violations, temporarily detained 129 vehicles, 144 documents of all kinds; issued decisions to handle administrative violations in the form of warnings in 3 cases and fines in 151 cases. Applying additional penalties of revoking driving licenses and badges for a period of 17 cases, deducting driving license points in 25 cases. Through traffic control work, the traffic police force distributed 400 leaflets, instructing people to comply with traffic safety regulations. At the same time, the traffic police force set up a stop on National Highway 1A, in Dai Hai commune, Ke Sach district (Soc Trang), distributing 150 helmets and over 1,000 bottles of mineral water to people riding motorbikes from Ho Chi Minh City to Soc Trang, Bac Lieu and Ca Mau provinces.

The Provincial Traffic Safety Committee has determined to continue researching, innovating, and diversifying the forms of applying science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation to the work of disseminating, popularizing, and educating laws on traffic order and safety. Regularly review, invest in construction, upgrading, and renovating the traffic infrastructure system, conditions for ensuring traffic order and safety; prioritize investment in thoroughly handling black spots, potential traffic accident spots, lighting systems, damaged traffic signal systems, and signal errors. Tighten management and inspection of compliance with regulations on transportation business and conditions for automobile transportation business; manage inland waterway vehicles, especially tourist passenger vehicles, and cross-river passenger wharves during the rainy season, storms, summer, and festivals.
