This is a fully funded, non-degree, nine-month program for full-time English teachers or related professionals with no more than seven years of teaching experience. Applicants will teach Vietnamese at a US college or university as a teaching assistant for up to 20 hours a week in the school’s language classes.

In addition, participating teachers are required to register for at least 2 courses each semester, one of which must be related to American studies. Tuition for these courses is covered by the program. Successful candidates will also receive a monthly living allowance, health insurance, and round-trip airfare to the United States. The Fulbright Program in Vietnam will select and nominate up to 5 official candidates and 2 alternate candidates from Vietnam.

The program is open to applicants who are Vietnamese citizens (not dual citizens), and reside in Vietnam throughout the application process; have at least 1 university degree; are currently working as an English teacher or in a related field with no more than 7 years of teaching experience; have a valid English score with a minimum score of TOEFL iBT 79, IELTS 6.5, Duolingo 110 or TOEFL Essentials 8.5.

"The program provides participants with the opportunity to improve their teaching skills, hone their English proficiency, and expand their knowledge of American culture and society, while also serving as teaching assistants and strengthening the way Vietnamese is taught to American students at American colleges and universities," the announcement said. The deadline for applications is 5 p.m. on July 8. Applicants can learn more about eligibility, funding, and the application process HERE .

According to statistics from the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), in 2023, there were 31,310 Vietnamese studying in the US, ranking 6th in the number of international students. This is the first time the number of Vietnamese studying in the US has reached more than 30,000 after 2 years below 30,000. However, if we consider the number of students in schools from kindergarten to high school, Vietnam is the 5th largest with 3,187 people, behind China, South Korea, Mexico and Spain.
