Real Madrid got off to a good start in La Liga on the morning of August 20, winning against Osasuna. 18-year-old rookie Mastantuono was brought on in the 68th minute, replacing Brahim Diaz. Mastantuono played as a right winger and showed great desire and confidence on the ball, creating a few chances for his team.
In his 28 minutes on the pitch, Mastantuono made a strong impression on the fans. According to ESPN , he became the third youngest foreign player to debut in La Liga for Real Madrid. Notably, Mastantuono had just turned 18 just five days before the match.
The record holder for age at debut for "Los Blancos" is Martin Odegaard (16 years 133 days), followed by Samuel Eto'o (17 years 270 days).
In the match against Osasuna, Mastantuono had a shot on target when receiving the ball in the penalty area, but his shot went straight into the hands of goalkeeper Sergio Herrera. The 18-year-old also created a scoring chance and had a passing accuracy of 89%.
Real Madrid's next match is away to Real Oviedo. Mastantuono is expected to get more playing time, if coach Xabi Alonso keeps Rodrygo on the bench. The Spaniard has identified Mastantuono, Diaz and Rodrygo as options for the right-wing position in his squad.
