Attack in Pakistan, at least 39 people killed

On August 26, the Pakistani Ministry of Interior announced that at least 39 people were killed in an attack in the southwestern region of the country. The attack occurred in the early morning in Musakhail district, Balochistan province.

Local officials said gunmen stopped several buses and trucks on the highway linking Punjab province with Balochistan. The group checked vehicles coming and going from Punjab province, identifying and shooting those coming from Punjab.

Nineteen people from Punjab and three from Balochistan were reportedly killed. Pakistani officials said the terrorists belonged to the Balochistan Liberation Army, the most active separatist militant group in the region.

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti condemned the incident and expressed condolences to the families of the deceased, vowing to pursue the terrorists.
