Brazil will increase the presence of security forces in the Amazon rainforest to fight organized crime and environmental crimes, as well as crack down on drug and arms trafficking, Justice and Public Security Minister Flávio Dino said.
According to Mr. Dino, the Brazilian Government will provide a budget worth about 410 million USD for security enhancement activities in the Amazon region, and at the same time plan to build a coordination center in Manaus City, the capital of Amazonas state.
On August 7 and 8, the Amazon Summit will meet in Belem, Brazil, with the aim of formulating a common policy to protect the world's largest rainforest. This is the first time a common policy has been developed between the governments of the member countries of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO).
