On May 27, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang signed and issued Directive 16/CT-TTG of the Prime Minister on strengthening the prevention and fight against crimes and violations of the law related to organizing and participating in gambling activities.
The Prime Minister instructed the Ministry of Public Security to strengthen intelligence gathering, promptly detect and strictly handle gambling and organized gambling activities. He also directed the implementation of intensive campaigns to attack, suppress, and dismantle criminal networks and gangs involved in organizing and participating in gambling. Furthermore, he emphasized the need for effective handling of complaints, reports of crimes, and requests for prosecution related to gambling and organized gambling activities. The Prime Minister also directed that immigration management be improved, promptly detecting, preventing, combating, and prosecuting foreign nationals entering Vietnam to engage in gambling or organized gambling, as well as Vietnamese citizens leaving the country to gamble or organize illegal gambling.
In addition, strengthen state management of online video games, strictly manage the script evaluation of online video games; severely punish individuals and organizations that exploit online video games to organize gambling and profit illegally from gambling. Prevent and remove illegal articles, content, images, etc., advertising related to organizing and participating in gambling activities.
The Prime Minister instructed the Ministry of Finance to coordinate with local authorities to strengthen the management of lottery business activities, preventing individuals from exploiting the system to organize gambling or engaging in gambling in the form of buying lottery numbers or distributing lottery tickets improperly. The legal framework for lottery business should be improved to suit the current market situation.
