Pat village, Muong Bu commune established a quarantine checkpoint and sprayed disinfectant on vehicles entering and leaving the area.

Since the beginning of the year, African swine fever has broken out in 263 hamlets and villages in 44 communes; more than 8,200 infected pigs had to be destroyed, with a weight of more than 420 tons. Currently, there are still 37 outbreaks that have not been controlled. There is currently no vaccine for African swine fever, and the mortality rate in infected pigs is almost 100%.

In Muong Bu commune, African swine fever has appeared since the beginning of June, has spread to 26 villages and has destroyed 2,387 infected pigs. The commune has identified outbreaks to isolate and control the epidemic; increased propaganda, mobilized people to proactively clean barns, monitor livestock and report immediately when detecting unusual signs. Strictly implement the destruction of all infected pigs and prepare support records for affected households according to regulations.

Mr. Lu Van Quy, Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, said: The commune directed the villages with epidemics to maintain quarantine checkpoints, assign members of the Village Management Board to be on duty, strictly control slaughtering activities and absolutely do not transport livestock in and out of the area. At the same time, coordinate with the Agricultural Technical Station of Region II, receive chemicals and implement a month of general cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization of livestock areas in the whole commune, and guide eligible households to safely re-herd.

Pig farmers in Bung Mo village, Yen Chau commune spray disinfectant and clean their barns after an epidemic.

Mr. Nguyen Van Phuong, Pat village, Muong Bu commune, shared: Although the epidemic has been going on for more than a month, my family still maintains the regular spraying of disinfectants and sprinkling of lime powder around the barn area. I also share information about the epidemic situation with other farmers in the village so that everyone can be more vigilant and proactively monitor their pigs.

Managing and monitoring epidemics in the areas of Chieng Mung, Muoi Noi communes and Chieng Coi, Chieng Sinh, To Hieu, Chieng An wards, the Agricultural Technical Station of Region XII has propagated, distributed chemicals and lime powder so that people can proactively clean and disinfect their barns and destroy diseased pigs according to regulations. Mr. Nguyen Xuan Uoc, Head of the Station, said: We actively propagate and advise farmers to proactively monitor their pig herds and regularly clean their barns. When an epidemic recurs, it must be reported immediately to the authorities for timely handling. The station's staff also closely monitor the situation, instruct farmers to effectively prevent epidemics, destroy diseased pigs and re-herd properly, ensuring safety.

To control the disease and limit its spread, the province has directed the establishment of two inter-sectoral quarantine checkpoints on National Highway 6 and National Highway 37, which are key traffic hubs of the province. The teams are responsible for strictly controlling the transportation of pigs and pig products in and out of the area. The province also organizes veterinary hygiene inspection teams at livestock, trading and slaughter facilities to ensure food safety. Any violations in the transportation, trading or slaughter of pigs are strictly handled according to regulations, to prevent the spread of disease and protect the livestock industry.

Leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Environment inspect disease prevention and control in Pat village, Muong Bu commune.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Toan, Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry, Veterinary and Fisheries, informed: The Department is coordinating with localities to review the total pig herd to plan vaccination for about 25,000 healthy pigs aged 4 weeks or older. Vaccination will not be applied to pigs in epidemic areas or areas threatened by epidemics. In addition, the Department will provide 7,000 liters of chemicals for general cleaning, disinfection, and periodic environmental detoxification to destroy pathogens. Livestock facilities must apply epidemic prevention measures early, implementing "5 no's" in epidemic prevention: Do not hide epidemics, do not buy, sell, or transport sick or dead pigs; do not throw dead pigs into the environment; do not use unheated leftover food. Periodically clean, disinfect, and detoxify the livestock area with lime powder or chemicals; clean, disinfect, and detoxify people and vehicles entering and leaving the livestock area.

In addition to urgent solutions from the government, it is necessary for people to join hands in strictly complying with epidemic prevention measures, contributing to repelling the epidemic and protecting the local livestock industry for sustainable development.
