On the morning of April 15, at Quan Su Pagoda, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) and the Buddhist Sangha Council of the entire island nation of Sri Lanka. The signing ceremony was witnessed by His Excellency the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka A.Saj U.Mendis.

In his welcoming speech to the delegation, Most Venerable Thich Thanh Nhieu, Standing Member of the Sangha Council and Permanent Vice President of the Executive Council, sent New Year greetings to the monks, government agencies, and people of Sri Lanka.
Reviewing the tradition of cooperation between Buddhism in the two countries, Most Venerable Thich Duc Thien, Vice President and General Secretary of the Executive Council, Head of the Central Committee of International Buddhism, affirmed the close relationship between the two Sangha, the connections in cultural andeducational aspects from the past and said that this process is the seed for future achievements in cooperation.

Venerable Mugunghwa Anuruddha, representative of the Sri Lankan Buddhist delegation, expressed his appreciation and gratitude for Vietnam's support over many periods. Especially during the Covid-19 pandemic and economic crisis, Vietnamese Buddhism has continuously helped the Sri Lankan people overcome difficulties.
According to Sri Lankan Ambassador to Vietnam A.Saj U.Mendis, this signing ceremony is an important and memorable milestone in the diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Sri Lanka in general and Buddhism in particular.
The signed minutes include two main contents: cooperation in Buddhist education and charity work to help the relationship between Buddhism in Vietnam and Sri Lanka become increasingly strong and reach new heights.
On this occasion, the two sides also exchanged souvenirs and sent invitations to attend Vesak in Sri Lanka and in Vietnam.
