The price of live pigs in Ha Nam also increased by VND1,000/kg, reaching VND66,000/kg. Currently, traders in the North are purchasing at around VND65,000 - 67,000/kg.
*Pig price in the Central Highlands region
Central Highlands region increased 2 prices in Nghe An and Dak Lak .
Currently, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An are the two provinces with the highest transaction price in the region, at 66,000 VND/kg. Also recording this increase, live pigs in Lam Dong are being sold at 65,000 VND/kg.
After increasing by 1,000 VND/kg, Khanh Hoa and Ninh Thuan both traded at 63,000 VND/kg, Binh Thuan increased to 64,000 VND/kg.
*Pig price in the Southern region
The Southern region also followed the general trend.
According to a survey this morning, an increase of 1,000 - 2,000 VND/kg was recorded in the provinces of Binh Phuoc, Dong Nai, Tay Ninh, Dong Thap, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Tra Vinh and Ho Chi Minh City.
Currently, in addition to Tien Giang province, where the price is 62,000 VND/kg, the price of live pigs in the provinces and cities in the region fluctuates between 63,000 - 65,000 VND/kg.
* Benefiting from the Law on Animal Husbandry, the pig farming structure is shifting: The Law on Animal Husbandry (2020) requires that from January 1, 2025, localities will have to relocate livestock farms out of residential areas and areas where livestock farming is not allowed, or will be forced to cease operations. Therefore, the livestock farming structure is shifting from small-scale households to professional livestock farms and large enterprises. According to the Department of Animal Husbandry, currently, small-scale farmers only account for about 30-35% of the pig production structure nationwide.
Pig prices have started to increase again since the end of 2023 and are currently hovering around VND65,000/kg due to a decrease in pig supply. In 2023, pig farmers, especially small-scale farmers, are quite hesitant to restock due to the continuous decrease in pig prices and high animal feed prices.
In addition, the reappearance of African swine fever has also affected the psychology of livestock farmers. In 2024, pork prices are forecast to remain high until the end of the year, animal feed prices tend to decrease, this is an opportunity for livestock businesses to improve profits.
