Recognizing that agriculture remains a crucial pillar of the local economy , the Party Committee of Van Lang commune has issued a Resolution on "Forming a clean, organic agricultural system, applying scientific and technological advancements; linking it with value chain development, increasing farmers' income, protecting the environment, and building a sustainable new rural area in Van Lang commune in the period 2026-2030".
Van Lang was formed by merging areas with a tradition of agricultural production. This region possesses favorable natural conditions, a large amount of arable land, and a hardworking population with extensive farming experience. However, for many years, local agricultural production remained fragmented, small-scale, and lacked linkages, resulting in low product value and the absence of concentrated commodity production areas. Therefore, the issuance of a specialized resolution on restructuring the agricultural economy is considered a correct and effective step, creating a foundation for the locality to maximize its potential and advantages.

The pineapple farming model in Van Lang commune is opening up a new direction for economic development, contributing to increasing income for the people.
The commune's target for the 2026-2030 period is an average annual increase of 6.5% or more in the added value of the agriculture and forestry sector; the agricultural sector's contribution to the commune's overall economic structure will reach 42%. Within this, the agricultural sector will be balanced and modernized: crop production will account for 34.5%, livestock and aquaculture 52%, and agricultural services 13.5%. The average product value will reach 170 million VND/hectare or more by 2030.
According to the commune's orientation, the biggest focus is on developing commercial agriculture along efficient, sustainable value chains with high productivity, quality, and competitiveness. To achieve this, it is first necessary to change the mindset from small-scale production to large-scale commodity production, centered on the market and using businesses and cooperatives as a bridge.
In the agricultural sector, Van Lang has identified several key products with competitive advantages to focus investment on. Notably, there is a plan to develop an export-oriented pineapple growing area of over 200 hectares, aiming to link with processing and export businesses. In addition, the commune is developing export-oriented areas for royal bananas and Cavendish bananas; expanding the cultivation of valuable fruit trees such as V2 oranges, red-fleshed dragon fruit, pomelo, Thai jackfruit, guava, custard apple, and longan... towards sustainable commodity production.
One of the highlights of the resolution is the development of a winter squash growing area of approximately 200 hectares. This crop is proving economically viable, suitable for local farming conditions, and chosen by many households. Simultaneously, the locality continues to develop high-quality rice growing areas, forming intensive production zones with high yields and good quality, adhering to safety standards and gradually achieving VietGAP certification...
To lay the foundation for modern agricultural development, Van Lang commune has identified the application of science and technology as a key factor. From seed selection, land preparation, irrigation, pest control to harvesting and preservation, all stages are geared towards mechanization, automation, and digitalization. The locality encourages people to access smart farming models, use organic fertilizers and biological products, and reduce dependence on agricultural chemicals to protect the environment and create safe products for consumers. Along with this is the policy of consolidating and accumulating farmland to form large-scale concentrated production areas.
Another major goal set by the commune is to have at least 10 OCOP products achieving 3 stars or higher by 2030, including at least 3 products achieving 4 stars. Currently, the commune is focusing on supporting cooperatives, cooperative groups, and businesses in improving packaging, labeling, traceability, and connecting consumption through e-commerce, supermarkets, and large distribution chains.
Comrade Luu Manh Hung, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Commune Party Committee, stated: “The thematic resolution on developing clean and organic agriculture is a major political commitment of the Commune Party Committee aimed at maximizing the potential and advantages of the locality. The commune has determined that sustainable development must begin with a change in production mindset, with the people at the center, businesses as the driving force, and science and technology as the foundation. The ultimate goal is to increase income and improve the material and spiritual lives of the people.”
It is clear that the economic restructuring in Van Lang was not just about changing crops and livestock, but more fundamentally, about transforming the development model. From traditional to modern production, from a self-sufficient mindset to a market economy, and from purely resource exploitation to development in harmony with the environment.
The road ahead is fraught with challenges, from investment capital and consumer markets to changing people's production habits. However, with strong political determination, sound direction, and the consensus of the people, Van Lang has all the necessary foundations to create a new breakthrough.
